Guardian Orisha in Tales of the Black Kingdoms

Hello All

The Guardian Orisha are listed on page 38 of TotBK as having

Standard Attack: 2 slams +23 melee (2d10+9)
Full Attack: 2 claws +7 melee (1d6+3)

Is this a typo? Is their standard attack more powerful than their full attack? And what is a "slam" ? I've seen the slam elsewhere in this module.

Thanks,

JB

PS: Like the module so far, though I wish the included maps had a scale!

I don't know if that is a typo or not since I didn't write it (but I suspect it is an error), but the author does occasionally post here. You might search his name and send him a PM.

A slam is basically just a punch or hit.

My map of Atlaia includes a scale if you want to use it.

Cool - thanks for the images, they're useful. I actually spent the last couple days fudging the building/cave maps in the TotBC module to fit on my battlemap so I'm ok for now.

I thought that's what a slam does. Perhaps it's more powerful than the full attack due the move element. Dunno, that's a total guess.

Thanks again!

I've been running this adventure too, the second one in Tales of the Black Kingdoms, and have found it pretty enjoyable (with a few liberties and elaborations made to custom-fit it into our campaign).

I'd always assumed the +23 thing to be a typo, and almost certainly the damage rating too, and so just used the +7 for the full attack too. The fight with the Guardian Orisha was pretty cool, especially since some of the PCs successfully performed the mantra/chant while others did not (or didn't care to use it).

This skirmish left the Shemite nomad nearly dead (she would've been if it wasn't for a 'Left For Dead' Fate Point), but mainly because she was caught more or less alone and without any armor, tending to her horse.

Oh, and one of the Kushite shamans ended up raising the corpses of the slain Orisha (four of them, I think), which was pretty cool, since it helped stave off a return assault of them later on that night. And, of course, the requisite good roleplay discussion regarding necromancy and sorcery in general followed afterward.
