I don't see that there's anything wrong with that. It seems like all that would change in scale is the amount of time to which we can equate a game turn.

That's fine, but when I suggested a change in model scale, it was suggested that /everything else/ should remain the same.
I take DM's point that vertical scale doesn't really matter, nor in fact does any other dimension of the model if you just take each one as being centred on an infinitely small point that you measure from. (although IIRC SST rules were always a bit hazy on where you centred from 'vehicle' sized models for things like tanker spit, and then you have model 'size' and 'reach' for warrior bugs. For that, a consistent scale and basing is very important, otherwise you have people building models with 50 inch wide bases and claiming that /everything/ is in BTB contact with it)
But in terms of actually playing on a tabletop, it's nice to have models that scale consistently with their rule set - so that you don't as I suggested earlier, end up with wee little paras who can't even shoot past their gliders.
