Granbretan: Question on an Order

Alright, I just finished the history of the Runestaff yesterday and I am hooked. As soon as I have the funds I am picking up the Hawkmoon RPG and the Granbretan sourcebook. For some reason I am immensly interested in the beast orders, they fascinate me and I cannot wait to play one (to the point where I threatened to create a granbretan dreamthief if my brother pitched Elric next time we vote on a campaign) either a traditional madman, or a rebel hidden amoung the insane, that being said...

Is the order of the Walrus in sourcebook? If so what is it's purpose? The only time we see members of the Walrus they are chasing the heroes through a forest towards a mountain..not things associated with the walrus. For some reason this has been burning my brain up just wanting to know and my brothers jibes of "koo koo katchoo!" and "their purpose is to hang out with carpenters and eat oysters" are not helping. So if anyone could give me a quick yay or nay on their inclusion and if possible a rundown of their purpose I would be much obliged.

Well if you wanted to play a Granbretan beast order rebel fighting against the dark empire he could come from the ortder of the Lion.

Dang, ah well guess I either have to give up or go pester Mr. Moorcock on his own forums.

And damn money flow! Now I have to wait a whole week to order Granbretan (the corebook is ordered and on it's way.)

Mage: My brother has come up with an idea (he has not read the books mind you) of a Flana-like Beast Order campaign; essentially a group of Beast Masked who realise the insanity of their fellows and work from within the system to try and change things.

Guess my burning desire for Granbretan will have to wait a while, any other tidbits anyone else wishes to share would be much appreciated.

One final question: Are there pictures of members of all the listed Beast Orders (like the one in the preview with the Pelican, Pig and (i'm guessing) Mongoose and Mallard/Owl)?

In the Chaosium supplement "Shattered Isle" Sandy Peterson describes the Walruses as an all male Order of mounted scouts and skirmishers, famed for their gluttony.

their are pictures of all the active orders and a brilliant adventure which shows the differance between hawkmoon and the others so I am toying with finding the lost grandmaster armoar of the lions now a symbol of resistance against the other beasts. 8)

I'd also suggest that the Order of the Walrus are ardent worshippers of the Feared Four - Jhone, Pawl Jhorg and Rhunga - ancient gods of Granbretan. Their battle hymn is the legendary mystic mantra 'I am the Walrus', and they are rumoured to be hunting the magical foe, The Eggmen.

Where do they stand on the dreaded Yoh Koh?

like the iron lady worship is forbidden but a few still do in secreat in beds of rose thorns singing give peas to france who the peas were no one now knows 8)

their are lesser orders around, old orders now in disgrace and banned orders remember the lion order is the boggy man everyone fears as its been blamed for every wrong for so many years.

suggest other orders as lions are the nobles and feared exist like shadows like swans(sea maidens)and puffins(old coastal defence)

Where do they stand on the dreaded Yoh Koh?

That evil sorceress who is rumoured to be half-dead, half-immortal? They seek her very soul, which is rumoured to lie in far Amarehk, guarding, the sorcerous disc known as Instant Karma - a device that, when played backwards, would release the captured soul of the Great God Jhone...

The last two posts just flew over my head.

Ah, well. The Hawkmoon saga is littered with in-jokes and twists relevant to the era they were written in.

I shall give you a clue. The Feared Four are based on a well-known beat combo from Scowse, and I suggest you google references to 'I Am the Walrus'...

Loz, I almost fell off my chair when I came across the four in the Hawkmoon book.

It took me a moment, but as soon as I said the names aloud I got it.

The Eggmen indeed... This gives me ideas for an adventure...

*Looks around at the insanity that has taken over his thread*

..wow, the granbretans are conquering things fast these days

Thanks for all the answers, now I just hope the wait for my own copy doesn't drive me mad.

Well Kalan mad is ok, just please not meladius mad.

Oh and Loz, thanks for giving my cats another reason to think I am insane as laugh like an idiot at the magic glowing box.

Another one missing......

The Order of the Mink.

Always liked usin em as spies in the old edition Hawkmoon. Kinda the duplicitous courtesan sterotype.

That an the leather..........................................................................?

Loz.
I see what you mean, beatles, yoko ono, churchill and the like. A bit before my time, but I get it.

Toothill,
From both the Chaosium Shattered isle supplement and the Monograph there is the Order of the Camel. Where the Eel's fill the role of merchant marines, the camel's do the same except overland. Their Grand Constable is Nortius Makssimas,Lord of Bognaar. They feature in an extended scenario hook in the monograph called Sons of the Desert.
Was a little dissapointed that there was not even a cameo appearance by Stan and Ollie.
The Shattered isle also lists several others, including the Order of the Hare who are military couriers and messengers mounted on giant goats.(D-Beasts?). It does not name their Grand Constable.
The Spider's are a warrior order under their Grand Constable Shaynon Makhartius. An all female order who never take male prisoners and widely believed to indulge in the cannibalism of their offspring.
The Wildcat order are an all male order of specialised night fighters and are led by their Grand Constable, Duke Wade the round.
The order of the wolverine are shock troops in style of the bull's but no mention is made of the name of their Grand Constable.
Outlaw and rebel orders are mentioned, specifically the Butterflies and the newly formed Elephant order.
