The Lance-class Gunboat is now available!

Ready to fire!

The Lance-class is a 300-ton Royal Navy gunboat that revived the concept of a gunboat. Armed with a 50-ton particle beam spinal mount and a railgun barbette, the Lance had the capability to be a serious threat to larger warships. The Lance was used by the British to defend their colonial holdings in Earth Sector and inspired several nations to come up with their own versions of these powerful little vessels.

Together with a purpose constructed interstellar capable gunboat carrier, the Maidstone-class, this allowed the Royal Navy to deploy up to six Lance-class gunboats to any system in which it was needed. This allowed for enormous flexibility and was a novel concept at a time where carriers were beginning to be considered by some navies to be an obsolete concept in space.

This book comes complete with full deckplans and statistics for both the Lance and the Maidstone to make your use of our product simple, easy, and fun. In addition, the book includes some excellent fiction by author Bradley Warnes.

Though specifically designed for our Clement Sector setting, the Lance and the Maidstone can be imported into any science fiction setting with little effort.

Climb aboard! Adventure awaits!

So, this is starting to get a bit spooky... this week, I have on two separate occasions thought about getting tech products. Within the day, I’ve gotten emails from online stores with those very products heavily discounted.

Yesterday, we looked at and talked about a photo a customer had sent us regarding a job, soon afterwards that very customer calls...

Finally I’ve been thinking about Traveller. Super-heavy fighters or gunships and their carriers, and the viability of those, and bam, there’s a new book from Gypsy Knights, derailing a gunship and its carrier... spooky :)

Judging from the previews this is a legacy or historical design, right?

I'm glad this was timely!

Yes, that's right.

Gotcha, thanks! Don't have that book, explains why I couldn't find the weapons.

So, overall the book - and thus the ships - seem nice. My first thought was to redesign them to give them artificial gravity and M-drives, making them more mainstream, but they do have a certain charm as they are… Gives me kinda The Expanse-vibes, which is good :)

Is this the second 'historical' ship entry for Clement?

I like what you guys have done with railguns in the Clement sector, with different types of ammo to make them a more versatile weapon!

You can find Optional Components here: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/241135/Anderson--Felix-Optional-Components-Guide

Yes, it is the second book on a "historical" ship. The Trent-class was the first. In case you or someone else reading this is interested in picking up the Trent, it can be found here: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/184489/Historical-Ships-of-Clement-Sector-1-Trentclass-Destroyer

Thanks!

So, I decided to pick up the Trent class ship book, since you guys are having a sale :)

One thing I noticed was that the Maidstone class carrier has a quite large crew compared to the Trent, and this got me thinking... Perhaps the Lance crews are included in the Maidstone numbers?

No, the six Lance class gunboat crew total was not included.

I made a decision several months ago to vary numbers of ship crew (general service/non specialist/maintenance) numbers between differing nation/polities/system ships. There is no upper limit specified for military (or even civilian) crew in Anderson and Felix GtNA or indeed CE:SDG. Rather both publications deal with minimum or required crew levels. The downside of course when a bigger crew is desired is that you need to provide for them within the design of that ship.

So you can make the assumption that the Trent's lower crew reflects higher automation, differing role and USSN doctrine of that earlier era in the setting.

I understand, thanks for sharing!

That would mean that the gunboat crews will spend their entire deployment in zero-G except when firing main thrusters? Good thing they have a gym :)

Oof... that would be hard for crew fitness and efficiency on long deployments (assuming that the medical technology available isn't up to mitigating the negative effects of long term residence in microgravity of course).

If I was bossing a Maidstone I'd look at rotating the Lance crews through the gravity zones of the mothership on some kind of regular schedule.

Yeah I’m inclined to agree - especially for longer duration deployments, or for periods when the gunboats aren’t likely to need to deploy from the mothership urgently, such as while in zimm-space.

Crazy idea, but how about something along the lines of rotating the crew stations. An engineer is an engineer, and a laser turret is a laser turret, right? How about this week these guys are stationed aboard Lance A, next week they’ll be on mothership duty and so on...? Perhaps not realistically feasible...
