Gateway Sector (was Re: Kafers in MGT)

I think this question goes more to MJD than anyone else.

SO If QLI loses it license would Avenger publish 990 era material using the MGT system? Or "rules lite" stuff like it did before.

I happen to like the Gateway to Destiny book and setting. I'm using it for my MGT games. There are a lot of room for more material. I was hoping for an alien ship book with ships for the Kafoe.

As I understand it, if QLI goes out of business (we can but hope), it doesn't affect anyone else's license. Mongoose would still be the only publisher who can publish OTU material.

As I understand it, Mongoose's license has a sunset clause in their license that means that QLI cannot get their license renewed. They could however, become a 3rd party publisher like Avenger and myself.

Anyone know when their license expires?

This is the question really - Matt earlier implied that he thought QLI would be losing its licenses today. I have no idea why that would be the case though (I thought QLI had a couple of years left). We're still waiting for further information.

I was very keen on the gateway setting too - easilly my favourite since the classic 1105 spinward marches. Would love to see product set here.

QLI =T20 - these guys did gateway.
As I said, I really like the Gateway setting, it has all the elements for excellent adventure.

Actually Gateway was originally written by the Keith brothers anf published in the final MegaTraveller Journal. That version was statted for the Rebellion era, although being so far from the Imperium it didn't really affect the background. I've used it before and it is good.

QLI took the Gateway sector stats, degraded them for the 990s and then added three other sectors. Don't get me wrong - that book is good too.

As I said, I really like the Gateway setting, it has all the elements for excellent adventure.

I like it too. I've run some games based there on the leading edge of the K'Kree expansion.

Thanks for the history, I didn't know that. The gateway sourcebook is really good. All those little polities with big leviathans surrounding them makes for great adventure settings.

But more importantly are you actually going to make it to travcon '10 or do we need to move it nearer to your house :wink:

I would like to do a Gateway 1105 sourcebook, and did oriinally plan to do Gateway 1248. But it depends on Mongoose.

The 990 setting is basically a dead end now. Resurrecting it would require extensive support, and all efforts are going towards supporting the 1105 setting - division of effort doesn't make economic sense right now.

The only people who realistically might want to do more Gateway 990 are QLI, and thants not going to happen.

Pity, because I liked the setting too.

Well, it apparently didn't get ring-fenced by Roger Sanger along with all the other MegaTraveller stuff, which is a good sign.

I'd like to do some stuff based in Gateway sector. Maybe for S&P once I've finished the BITS uber adventure...

Anything else I guess would be up to Mongoose (as MJD said) and, I imagine, Bill Keith would have a say in it too.

The stats in MTJ #4 would be fine I guess. The differences between 1105 and 1120 wouldn't be much (with no Rebellion that far out to change things anyway).

I find j-1 mains and j-1 ships work best. :wink:

I've reworked the plan for #7, which had become way too busy for a 4-hour game. I'm planning to have it ready for Dragonmeet.

#9 and #10 are pretty much storyboarded, although I still need to put a lot of detail in. #8 is still up in the air though.

I, also, like the GD 990 setting. But a GD 1105 sourcebook would be one of my must-purchases (amidst all the others). But I would like to see the TLs increased, at least for 3I and for most of the larger and more progressive states.
