Gaim campaign question

I'm just sitting here planning my LoNAW fleet for a new campaign, and run into a problem.

It says that all pure Gaim fleets must include at least one Queen whenever they appear or take initiative and crew quality penalties. Does that apply to Gaim who are part of a mixed League fleet?

I'll be including at least one Queen ship on the fleet roster, but I'm just wondering if I need to take one in every game where the Gaim would be making an appearance.

Gaim Queens are not required in League fleets. And the Queen special rules do not apply. The only Gaim special rule is the Pilot Drones rule - which allows the free replenishment of fighters.

I thought that if you do bring a Queen, the Queen special rules do apply to the Gaim ships present. For example if you bring a Queen, a Gaim gunship and a load of other League ships... the Gaim Queen would still get CQ+1, the gunship would still get the Queen's CQ, and still go down to -4 CQ if the Queen died, also the Queen provides double VP.

And the dynamic squadron rule should apply to Gaim ships as part of a League fleet... the Gaim ships can re-form squadrons at will, though they can't re-form with any non-Gaim ships.

According to the rule book, the only two Gaim rules that apply to a mixed League fleet are Pilot Drones and the now-defunct Assault Drones.

If you apply the Queens and Protect the Queens rules, that would mean you must have a Queen in every fleet.

Yeah but according to the rulebook, none of the pak rules apply...

It's been said before that fleet special rules that apply to the entire fleet don't apply to a mixed league, but those that apply to individual ships or only ships of that race, do apply.

You can't apply half a special rule, surely.

If you apply "Ruling Queen ships receive a +1
bonus to Crew Quality. Every ship in the fleet will have the same Crew Quality as the closest Queen that is within 12”. " You have to include, "Every Gaim fleet must be led by at least one Queen ship (of any type)" as it is part of the same rule.

I sort of agree with you on that one. It isn't an individual ship rule, but nor is it a whole fleet rule.

Except you're not a Gaim fleet, you're a LoNAW fleet

Exactly, so fleet rules do not apply - Queens and, by that reading of the rules, Dynamic Squadrons.

However this ruling does change the rule in the book. The book specifically states some thing like: "ONLY these fleet rules apply" and doesn't list Gaim CQ bonus.

Also if Queen's CQ bonus now applies then does the double VP's?

I think this rule needs a full clarification and putting in the FAQ's as the ISA ruling is completely missing.
