Fun with Computers

Emperor Mongoose
So I realized that the old Military and Scout Map Box was not listed. But then I thought, maybe this was a chance to play with the computer section.

So here is what I came up with:

MGT1 Map Box: TL9, Cr 3,000, no weight given. (Used listing in Mercenary 1)

MGT Beta:

Portable Computer TL 10, Computer/2 .5 Kg, Cr 500
Software---
Intelligent Interface Tl 11, Cr 100
Database TL7 Cr 10,000 or Cr 10 to 10,000 ???

Bandwidth:
Intelligent Interface 1
Database 0 or 1 ???

Ok so what did I see?

The Database listed in the CRB has no bandwidth cost and the one in the CSC has a Bandwidth of 1. They should agree either way.

The cost of the Database in the CRB is listed as a range of Cr 10-10,000 but the CSC only lists Cr 10,000

So if I went with the most costly option for bandwidth, the CSC and ignore the cost in the CSC and select a cost I want in the range given in the CRB I come up with:

MGT Beta Map Box: TL11 (up by 2), Cost of Cr 3000 (if I had used the fixed 10,000 cost found in the CSC the total would have been Cr 10,600 )

I would suggest that the CSC and CRB match both in cost and bandwidth.

Try this one on for size.

Computer, Main Frame TL 5 Computer/0 5 Tons MCr 2.0
Interface - Bandwidth 0

Early computer system used for business and scientific purposes. Systems consist of multiple dumb terminals, output devices and storage devices. Approximately 60% of the mass is used by the required cooling and air conditioning systems.

In case you were wondering what happened to Core/1 computers, extrapolating it would mean that you get paid for taking one of the manufacturer's hand, probably a gift certificate worth two million credits.

It probably breaks the assumption about being an inherent part of the bridge, and adds at least a stateroom of heavy iron, resembling an IBM mainframe iconic of the 1970s.

- TL 7
- Rating 20
- Cost 10 MCr.
- Jump minimum 1
- Maximum ship size Adventure ship classes
- Weight 6 tons plus
