Fronela cover

Osentalka

Mongoose
The cover of the Fronela book is up.

IMHO it fits with Loskalm, even if the rider has no runes on him, and it looks a little bit like a generic fantasy picture.

What do YOU think?

By the way: This time the Glorantha logo is on the top again, and the title at the bottom... strange...

Not so impressive as the Durulz (which really rocks) IMO. You're right in that it seems quite generic.

Generic and inane; random knight on horse fighting undead. Looks to have been picked out of Mongoose's selection of left-over artwork for possible future books. I'm struggling to see the relevance.

At this rate it's going to seem like I'm complaining about everything. They have proved themselves capable of doing Gloranthan covers which evoke something of Glorantha without being so estoeric that no one but the cognescenti understanding. This, however, is not one of those covers.

I agree that the generic fantasy feeling might be to strong with this cover, but it is also generaly okay: a heroic (Loskalmi ?) knight fighting evil.

I think its a real let down after the glory that was the Dara Happa Stirs cover, a nice illustration which matched the Gloranthan theme of the book. As others have said its just a generic Knight fighting generic undead.

Also the positioning of the text doesn't sit well with me and looks a bit random. Its like now that Mongoose has ditched the restrictive but consistent Marble theme of the 2nd Age books, anything goes!

I'll buy the book since I have ultimate faith in Loz's writing, but if I didn't know what the book was about in advance I'd walk past it as I do with any other Generic Fantasy cover.

Praise the lord for Mock Covers :)

it will probably change before print, i'm never that happy until i have played around a little but have to generally make it a quicky during the mock stages.
The final cover is usually on the site when its due for print so dont worry to much... well about the layout anyway.

But generic knights always save the princess right? :P

If you read the (brief) coverage of Fronela/Loskalm in GtSA book, you should see the relevance of the cover to the source material. And what's depicted on that cover has even more direct relevance to what's inside the covers of 'Fronela'.

The concept was mine, BTW, but sorry if you don't like it.

I'm more worried as to how the knight's shield got to the same side of the horse as his sword-arm without slicing through the horse's neck...

Maybe it could be Gloranthified if the monsters he's fighting are more iconic? Say a broo and a walktapus, rather than just undead?

The undead are referenced in GtSA, so it's reasonably Gloranthafied if you look at it those terms...
