[Freelance Traveller] Is this possible with grav tech?

FreeTrav

Cosmic Mongoose
For discussion purposes, assume that technology is at the Classic Golden Age levels - c. 1100 Imperial.

Is it possible to put a grav system in something about the size of a soccer ball? The idea here is that it only needs to be powerful enough to randomly change the direction or arc of the ball's flight within 30 degrees of the ball's current trajectory. It does not need to be able to achieve any significant altitude; just needs to make the ball's flight unpredictable.

If it can be done at all, at what TL and cost?

Hopefully when Mongoose's Robots book comes out it will follow the CT flavor, because in Book 8 Robots, this could be done.

I do believe the personal drone in the core rule book is a small ball shaped robot that uses grav tech to get around.

I think your right, and I believe its TL 13. Maybe it is as low as TL 11.

Strange, my core book has disappeared to points unknown, so I can't check. :?

Take your stock Grav Belt (TL-12 Cr 100,000), cut up and shove into scoccer ball (TL7 Cr 15) with control pressing sides...

Since Grav Floater appears at TL-11 for only Cr 500, don't see why this wouldn't be available for a lot less than 100,000 at TL-12 - since there is no need for manipulable controls, etc. and mass is small and limited.

The Personal Drone is detailed on TMB Page 95.

It is 30cm in diameter and TL 11, Cost: Cr 2,000. It is gravitic and has holographic projectors, so obviously even smaller units are possible.
