Forum problems?

Were the forums down for anyone else this weekend? Same thing happened a couple of weekends ago, all I got was an error saying the SQL database had crashed.

Is this something we can expect to keep happening? (what version of Phpbb is this forum running anyway? It's on 3.0.12 now, but I get the feeling the Mongoose Boards are still on 2.something)

Hopefully not, though has happened before usually not down as long though.

Well, it's happened twice in two weeks now I think and it's been down the whole weekend both times - presumably nobody's around to fix it in the weekend? Is anyone investigating why it's happening and doing anything to try to prevent it? (e.g. does the database need rebuilding, or does the forum software need updating?). Is anyone even maintaining the forum or the database (making regular backups etc)?

Usually if these things are left unchecked then they'll fail permanently at some point, and then you'll have no choice but to create new forums and all the old data would have been lost. That would be rather unfortunate.

It's an occupational hazard. Happens over a weekend, seemingly at random. No telling whether any given weekend, the forum will be up or down.

The fact that it happens over a weekend might suggest some trivial, yet exasperating cause; it could be something as simple as a contract cleaner unplugging the server from the mains to plug in a hoover and not remembering to plug it back in when they leave.
