Formidable Task Difficulty

The only usage I've seen for "d66" is that odd d6 equivalent of the percentile roll that uses one d6 as the "tens" and the other as the "ones". That CAN be used as a d36 if mapped, since the two dice are considered separately.
1,1 = 1
1,2 = 2
1,3 = 3
1,4 = 4
1,5 = 5
1,6 = 6
2,1 = 7
2,2 = 8
and so on. Essentially (1d6-1)x6+1d6

There are single dice out in the world for nearly every even number up to 20 (there may not be a d14 or d18), as well as a d24, d30, and d34, and the infamous golf ball d100.

You don't even need to bother with that. Especially if it is just a few rolls per game. Just generate 20 rolls before the game starts (for random table stuff.)

A D36 rarely shows up at someone's RPG table.

Interesting comment since I use D66 (1d6x1d6) all the time in my Traveller games.

That doesn't workout to what a D36 would roll.
It generates a number in Heximal, base 6, just count all 6s as 0s.
66 = 0 or 36
61 = 1
62 = 2
63 = 3
64 = 4
65 = 5
16 = 6
11 = 7
12 = 8
13 = 9
14 = 10
15 = 11
26 = 12
21 = 13
22 = 14
23 = 15
24 = 16
25 = 17
36 = 18
And you get the idea.
Also it helps to have 6 sided dice that are numbered 0 through 5, but those are rare.
