Florian League Ships

Are there any Florian ship designs in published material (official or fanon)? Any artwork for them?

It would be interesting to see how these weird dimorphs design and operate their ships. Especially since they don't exactly come off as an imaginative bunch.

A Pirates of Drinax campaign might take an interesting turn if the Florians could be talked into contract ship building for Drinax (for a price of course). And away from the prying eyes of the Heirate and Imperium. Although something the size of a DE might take 1-2 years to build, patrol corvettes, pickets, gunships, frigates, and similar ships could be built in 6 months or so. Only from off the shelf Florian designs of course - with all sorts of Florian design quirks that Travellers or Drinaxians have to work around. The Florian League might also be a good place to unload any easily traceable prize for salvage/construction credit.

We've had descriptions of Florian ships; they're infamously "blocky", inelegant and brick-shaped. There are pictures (in Traveller's Digest, I think? Maybe issue 20? Or the Third Imperium magazine?)

Apparently, Florian ships tend to be well-armed and not much for comfort; picture a rectangular box with odd turrets attached and no sense of aesthetics.

I don't have it in front of me at the moment, but I seem to recall that there was a design or two in GT: Humaniti in the Floriani section.

Hi Peleliu,

Sorry for the thread-necromancy, I have created a Florian League version of the Subsidized Merchant I thought you might be interested in. The Florians are known for their ugly, boxy ships. This one is designed to carry two 50-dTon modules like those found in Robert J Pearce's Ship Geomorph articles:

If you are OK with boxy, or just want another Florian League ship, check out Robert Pearce's version of the Florian Provincial Merchant:

I hope you find these ship's useful.

In case anyone was wondering about the ship's finances, here is my estimate:

Assuming two Jump-2 per month:
12 x High passage (14,000) = 168,000
12 x low passage (1300) = 15,600
100 dTons cargo (1600) = 160,000
Revenue: total = 343,600 Cr x 2 = 687,200 Cr / month (best case scenario)

Monthly expenses
Mortgage: 475,458Cr
Life support: 12+ 8 = 20 staterooms x 1000Cr = 20,000 Cr
Person (food) costs: 12 + 12 = 24 x 1000Cr = 24,000 Cr
Low Berth: 12 x 100 = 1,200 Cr
Fuel = 80 dTon x 2 x 100Cr (unrefined) = 16,000 (could be 80,000 Cr if you had to by refined fuel)
Repairs / Maintenance: 9,509 Cr
Salaries: 47,500 Cr (could cut these by not carrying gunners, administrator and sensor op)
Berthing Costs: Class C average 350Cr, Class B average 1750Cr, Class A average 3500Cr = Say, an overall average of 1850 Cr x 2 per month = 3700 Cr (could be as low as 200 Cr, or as high as 12,000 Cr)
Total expenses: 597,367 Cr

Theoretically,
the ship could make a profit of 89,833 Cr per month

However, if it was only two jump-1s, or there weren't enough high passengers and you have to take on middle passengers, your cargo holds weren't full, or you had to buy refined fuel, or berthing costs were higher, those numbers could swing massively against you.

Salary Breakdown:
Captain: 10,000 Cr
Pilot/XO: 6,000 Cr
Astrogator: 5,000 Cr
Engineer: 4,000 Cr
Maintenance: 1,000 Cr
Gunner x2: 2,000 x 2 = 4,000 Cr
Steward: 2,000 Cr
Administrator: 1,500 Cr
Sensor Operator: 4,000 Cr
Medic: 4,000 Cr
Launch Pilot/Copilot: 6,000 Cr
Sub-total: 47,500 Cr
