First picture of the Federation Battleship

Is there going to be a new movement catergory called "super lumbering"? :D Wow, I bet that thing is a real pig, movement wise.

I'll be getting the rest up on our page on FB over the course of the day. The way that FB works is that it collapses the pictures into a one-shot album unless you post at least an hour apart. With so many fans in Europe and Australia, I like to give everyone a chance to notice the pictures in their newsfeed.

I hope not Turn 9 + Lumbering is already sluggish enough. It takes a full 8 turns for a Turn9L ship to make one 360 degree turn!

Anyways the Mars class would have been a formidable ship had the Federation decided to go through with building them. If anyone wants an idea of what her capabilities are, in Star Fleet Battles she has the following armament:

10 Photon Torpedo Tubes, 8 forward, 2 rear
9 Drone Launchers
15 Offensive Phaser-1s, with at least 8 being able to fire at any given target.
3 Defensive Phaser-Gatlings* (rapid-fire Phaser-3s)
6 F-15 Attack Shuttlecraft*

* I would guess there is a strong chance these will not be included in it's CTA:SF incarnation

\/ \/ Figured not, which is fine by me. I like keeping Fighters as a special schtick of the Hydrans

I don't have the (double-sized!) Ship Card to hand, but the F-15s are not present on the FC incarnation (and are a safe bet not to be on the version we'll soon see in Battleships Armada).

Thanks for the link to the BBS, Nerroth. I've posted my comments there, but overall it looks pretty good and I don't think it's going to need a whole lot of revision to get SVC's stamp of approval.

That ship truly is massive, by the way.

Just a note to any SFB grognards who pass by, the "balconies" adjacent to the shuttlebay were an error in my project proposal drawings and have already been noted as such on the ADB bbs reporting thread.

But really, all that ship needs to do is at worst, a 180 degree turnaround, so that takes 4 turns (which is bad enough really). Maybe someone could use it in the role of a Star Castle? :D

It's always been a pretty hideous design. You're better off going over to ADB's boards and lobbying for a redesign than complaining here - Mongoose is just following in their footsteps, as their license requires.

Gotta agree....my first reaction was ewwww.

As to why, warp nacelles scattered around higgardy piggardy, attemp to convey size by making the main body "fat" looks silly. Just lacks grace or symmetry.

Its the flat tops, where for is this grace and stuff. Besides which BBs are supposed to be UGLY, its in the job description.

More firepower than anything mobile, tougher than base station, more manoeuvrable than a super heavy freighter, ugly as a donkeys rear end

Its more or less stuck with the shape that comes from ADB though so you cannot go with the twin but very big warp nacelles which would make it a lot more streamlined.

Re the super lumbering comment earlier. OI. Us Gorns are already slow and lumbering, we would like our BB to actually be able to move without needed a Tug to turn corners

Its does look a bit like two ships have crashed into each other - not to my taste.

I don't think that it will be able to be changed in any significant way though as this is not allowed.

I've never liked the "add a warp nacelle to the saucer section" look (or any odd number of nacelles except for the Saladin for some reason), but it's as much a part of SFB as those hideous Kzinti ships, so we just have to accept it.
