This is not an exhaustive effort. I used around 220 ships to make my generalizations.

That's quite clever... there are only 203 different ships in the game (oh alright 204 if you count Abbai and Brakiri Brivoki's to be different). That includes all unofficial S&P ships, and the unofficial races Ghosts Of Omelos and Argent's Crusaders. If you include fighters, space stations and orbital satellites, the number goes up significantly of course, but you made no mention of these.
