Thank you for the response, it is appreciated. I also hope that you understand that opposing viewpoints given are not done out of a desire to troll the forums, but to do our part to help make MgT2 into a worthy successor of MgT1 and an economically viable product for Mongoose Publishing. Mongoose has done a great job with the Traveller line and we wish for that legacy to continue. Our passion is not meant to be strident, even though it may seem that way.

Always understood - we, of all people, know how passionate one can get with Traveller!

And you are welcome.

I think I can wait for HG, my main concern is only that the sample ships in the core book are really compatible with HG when it does arrive. We all know the issues with the official GDW designs, pretty much none of which actually worked under the rules as published. Same for the sector books, in fact.

So, I'll be more than happy to have a core book at the table, with the ship, vehicle, world, and whatever design rules in their own books to be pulled out as and when needed. As long as they're worked out at the same time as the core book and there are no inconsistencies.

I would have preferred to have had the new version 2 core rules split into Player and Referee books like D&D rather than its messy present format. I would have had the Player book have all the chargen, game rules plus equipment, with some limited samples of ships, animals, worlds and people and then ALL of the tech design in a separate Referees Book ie planets, vehicles and ships. As it is you have design and gameplay sections all over the place. Its just a bit of a mess and not much better than the existing rules books.

I would have had a later separate book for more advanced ship/world/character/creature/vehicle design.

That way you could have three or four hardback books with everything in them just like D&D rather than having to buy flaming loads and loads of little books again which lets face it not many people are going to bother to do. Its just a crazy decision to rewrite everything just slightly differently but in exactly the same format as before. I cant see myself getting all that stuff. Been there done that.

While I understand your desire, I couldn't disagree more. The book as is offers a fully playable game in one book. That is not to say there is things missing of the hard core fan or us old grognards. But I can run a full game from a single book. The present version needs some cleaning up and polishing, true, but then it is one of the best looking "beta drafts" I have seen in a long time.

Or we could go with the classic 3 book format, Characters and Combat in one, design and equipment in another and worlds/trade and encounters in a third....

Just sayin', though that split would make me happy, as I have always found the Uber-Book model for recently produced RPGs to be cumbersome. (Actually, as of now I truly prefer PDFs, in that I am a digital boy and having multiple windows on a screen is so much easier than a pile of books with pencils for bookmarks when I am working on a game)
