Fire Raptor

Right, well Target finally got his books yesterday here in New Zealand, along with some of the new models, and we immediately had a game with the new Fire Raptor model.

I don't mind the model, but it soon became apparent, 5pt battle, Drazi vs Centauri vs Narn that the Fire Raptor is way underpowered.

Less Damage etc than any of the main fleet warships, and less fire power in its forward and beam arcs than a Warlock has in the same arcs. One extra turn dosn't make up for this, especially when weapon ranges are taken into account.

Our Drazi player is not happy.

Its a bit weird considering the Storm Falcon is a decent Battle level ship.

Oh and we would prefer a book properly done and later than the way the rule book came out, and we got it a month later than everyone else later, but thats a minor quibble.

So any comments about what we are doing wrong with the Raptor?

I was going to argue that it's a War level ship with 2/45º turns and no Lumbering Trait. All its weaponry points forwards.... Then I noticed the G'Vrahn and thought that this argument will die horribly.

well not going to say its good cos I have not played with

looking at the stats - well it has double the warlock beam very other round ,same each round - though shorter range.

otherwise yeah its a bit low on firepower although I suppose it is all foccessed on one arc and maybe one ship...............

Ok compared to a Narn G'Vrahn as both have the same turnability ^^.

It has less damage and actually less firepower (No energy mine) than the Narn vessel, no command bonus, no interceptors.....so i have no idea how to rate it, except that it seems alot weaker :S

It is definatly not a battle level ship, nor its on par
with the G'vran. It needs a bit upping on firepower
and/or hitpoints.

Maybe this will make her better but not too good:

up Particle Cannon to 8 AD
up Particle Repeater to 16 AD
up Hvy Particle Blaster to 10 AD

that should do it.

It was quite a debated ship in playtesting actually with some people coming down each side of the "it should/shouldn't be more powerful" arguament. It's certainly not a simple one to sort out.

Double Damage on the secondary beam like the stormfalcon has on theirs would help a bit & maybe more range. More speed would make more Drazi like as well.
It's terribly underpowered, no faster than most War lvl ships, no defenses, less hits & even less forward firepower than most other war lvl ships. There is nothing good about it. Far better off with 2 Stormfalcons or 2 Nightfalcons.
The Brakari Tashkat is pretty much in the same league but throw some Gravatic Lances on that ship & problem is solved.

Would love to know what the arguments for its current lack of firepower are. Aside from a fluff one of drazi are supposed to suck at that level.

heh, I was expecting Movement 10, and perhaps Agile trait would make it more noticeable.

Other then that maybe give it loads of miniturized solar cannons instead of missile racks, a original Drazi breakthrough in weapons developement ;)

I don't think the Fireraptor, in itself, is that bad. Nothing spectacular, sure... but not bad.
Howeve when put into context of a Drazi fleet, it sucks big time. In all but the biggest games, taking a War level ship as part of a boresight-reliant fleet is simply suicidal.

My Drazi fleet has I think got a boost under 2e. In particular although the sunhawk remains worthless, it has several variants now that are cost effective.

I am buying a few extra ships to bulk out my fleet, but would never consider a fire raptor the stats are pathetic.

I am not being negative, the drazi have done quite well out of 2e (they needed it) but the fire raptor is just worthless, much better off with a couple of storm falcons or 187 solarhawks.
