Fighters and Scenarios - 2nd Ed

Da Boss

Mongoose
There has previously been discussion here about fighters and if they should or should not be capable of completing secnarios themselves. Some state that these end as soon as there are no "ships" on the table.

However two things bother me - there are now "fighters" that are actually small patrol ships - should these be counted as ships for this purpose?

Also in the show the starfuries were often the ones went off on missions alone - should it not reflect that...............?

Have fun! :D

Anything that is an Auxillary Craft is not a Ship... no matter how big the model or what it is called. Some scenarios can be taken just with fighters, others can't.

Yes as it stands - wondered if would change............or more accuratly should it change? - but looks like I am the only one ! :D

ah well never mind........i'll shut up for a bit

lets face it, a lot of fleets fighters aren't up to doing a scenario on their own! imagine a group of Kotha trying to do one! or the Falkosi.

I don't think it should change. Yes fighters are used a lot in the series, mostly series 1, but ACTA is a large-scale fleet game about big ships. Fighters are just an addition, one of many, not the primary focus of the game.

I sort of agree, I think there is room for a fighter game using ACTA, but for it to work fighters would have to change quite drasticaly and become like small ships. I have been mulling over doing a BSG mod for fighter combat between Cylon Raiders and the Colonials. The basic system is good enough, just fighters need changing.

Some fighters however, are quite able to change the tide of battle. T'Bolts, Nials and WS Fighters are quite capable of knocking out line ships, the Narn fighter is also capable of dealing out a lot of damage.
A flight of Nials or WS Fighters can lay a whooping down on a lot of ships.

yes, but if they don't have a jump gate to get to the scenario, they can't got to the scenario, apart from shadow fighters I think, that is why you need a ship! (ok this argument has holes in it as not all ships are jump capeable) also I suspect just like real fighters, they need refueling, with no ship around, they would drift away and die. this is mere postulation, and in no way reflects actual game mechanics (as said mechanics should also make fighter missiles one shot!)

We saw lots of time fighters on mission without jump capable ship around them. That's why those things called jump gates are built around :D

I always thought the Drakh raiders should have this trait as well, but I suspect the answer is "send them in carriers"

Then why give it to it? That's just stupid.

to allow them to fire weapons on the turn they use the Jump Point and use their SAs eg Scanners To Full
Yes, although that is of limited usage, because it means the ship that opened the jump point cannot come through this turn.

Has anyone actually used the Jump Point trait of a WS Fighter yet??
