FDM printing miniatures.

I got a Bambu P2S and have bought a bunch of 2nd Dynesty stuff for traveller. I have been printing a bunch. My problem is with figures. I am hit or miss. I have watched a dozen or more videos on resin to fdm printing, I have change angles of the print, set the settings to make it work. Some figures come out great. But I am about 50/50 on failures and it is usually feet coming loose from the supports.

This is the video I used as reference for settings.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Not familiar with that model of printer but standard things to try.

Check the temperature - some need a higher temp, some colors vary the temp, etc.
Check your speed - if you can slow down the better
Check your leveling - that might be causing the sheering you are seeing
Check for vibrations - a larger sturdy surface works better

I would take the old Makerbot out to bars to print and show off for the library. Printing on the bar worked great, printing on a portable table would be trickier, especially for taller items.

FDM isn’t great for minis, Resin is far better BUT very messy

I have just decommissioned my Saturn 2 and 3 printers and returned to FDM as my needs have changed, am now using a BambuLabs H2S

I use a Bambu A1 mini and print the 2nd Dynasty figures in 15mm scale (!)

The key is your support settings. A lot of trial and error to get supports that still support but peel off without destroying the figure (especially the thin ankles that 2nd Dynasty insist upon).

I don't attempt the resin2fdm magic trick - but just stick with tree or regular supports.

Yeah, that was understood when I bought it. It obviously can be done, I just have to figure out the settings for my printer, some turn out really good.

Cool, 15 mm I would think would be harder. I do use supports and some minis turn out really good. Removing supports has not been the problem. these failures happen while printing. Like the one in the middle, the left foot came unhooked from the supports as it was printing.

I use Tinkercad to cut the figure in half at the belt line and invert the leg section so that both prints begin on a large flat surface, this should minimise the supports required as well. Glue the two halves together after printing. Some poses with hands spread make this more difficult it makes it a but easier to get to the parts.

15mm minis on a FDM printer sounds sporty :)

I have not messed with tinker cad. But now that you mention it. I wonder if I can do the same thing in the Bambu slicer

0.2 nozzle of course.

I also print 6mm scale vehicles!
