Favourite Episodes from the Show

As I'm on my Easter holidays now (god bless school holidays for teachers), I have been watching a little B5 again and wanted to discuss what we thought were our favourite shows.

To get the ball rolling, here are mine:

Season 1
And the Sky Full of Stars
Signs and Portents
Chrysalis

Season 2
In the Shadow of Z'ha'dum
The Long Twilight Struggle
A Fall of Night

Season 3 (spot the battles)
Severed Dreams
Interludes and Examinations
Grey 17 Is Missing (just kidding)
Shadow Dancing

Season 4
The Long Night
No Surrender, No Retreat
Between the Darkness and the Light

Season 5
All My Dreams Torn Asunder
The Fall of Centauri Prime
Sleeping In Light

Of these, season 2 builds the story, season 3 kicks things into high gear and season 4 finishes many threads off. After a slow and shaky start, season 5 actually reaches the highs of earlier episodes once Byron is gone.

My overall favourites are:

1) Severed Dreams
2) Signs and Portents
3) The Long Twilight Struggle
 
So many to choose from.....

The Long Twilight Struggle was the first ever B5 episode I saw..... and probably remains my favourite. Interestingly enough I watched it again on Sunday.

Then again their is Sleeping in Light................. which is just breathtakingly brillant

You didn't mention movies but I think Thirdspace is awesome
 
1) Into the fire - (actually... now that you mention it? :twisted: )
2) Severed Dreams (Be somewhere else!)
3) Endgame (Give me ramming speed!)

Theres too many to choose from really but those I think are my absolute favourites.
 
That is quite a difficult question Triggy. Here goes mine:

1. Severed dreams.
The most dramatic and engaging of all the episodes. Careful build up, brilliant finish.

2. Deconstruction of Falling Stars.
IMO, the true finale of B5. Men will screw up again and again, but eventually turn out allright. Whaddayaknow, JMS is optimistic in the long run :wink:

3. War Without End
I guess because it features B4 and Valen, and their heroic yet insanely bizzare tale.
 
Yeah, I forgot the movies and Crusade.

I'd have to check up on my favourite Crusade episodes but my fave movie would be Thirdspace - just a great one off movie with loads going on followed by In the Beginning - fills in several holes even if it does try to link every character to every important event in the whole of B5!
 
Crusade, I generally dislike the series but if I have to name a favourite:it would be "Each Night I Dream of Home". Finally got a good look at a Warlock :twisted:

Movies:
Thirdspace. I still think it could have been better though.

Severed dreams would be my all time favourate. I know there are episodes with bigger flasher battles, but this one is such a turning point episode.

But The Long Twighlight Struggle was the episode that really sold B5 to me. It was the first episode of B5 that I ever saw, and that Narn Vs Shadow battle blew me away. It was the best space combat sequence that I had ever seen up till then.
 
Actually thinking about it, the long twilight struggle was probably the first epsiodes of B5 I ever watched too. I'd seen bits before then but never really sat down and watched it (only saw bits and thought it was a bit naff prior to then :P)

As for Movies: In the Beginning by MILES for me, I adore that movie and Londo's speech about the humans about halfway through is just fantastic.

Thirdspace would have to come second (though personally I think it was a good epsisode rather than really movieworthy).

A Call to Arms comes in at thrid, the plot isnt great, the cast, aside from Sheridan and Galen, are... less than spectacular in my eyes but its got the Victory in it (and I do love that ship) and the big fight at the end is cool.

River of Souls: Just..... NO. Bad. I always hated the whole soulhunter thing to begin with, they were just annoying and even Charlie Sheen (who I normally like in most things) couldnt save this movie.

Lastly, theres Legend of the Rangers.... /shudder. Quite possibly the worst movie ever made. And I've seen some BAD movies.

Abysmal plot that completely throws any sense of continuity with the rest of B5 out the window, 'acneint and all powerful' enemies whos ships can be destroyed by a HAND GRENADE, stupidest weapon system ever concieved and acting more wooden than Pinochio. It's a travesty that this was G'Kars last appearance since it's hardly a fitting epitaph for one of the best characters in B5 (and definitely one of, if not THE best actor in the series (unless you count guest stars like Micheal York of course :D (which reminds me: Late Delivery from Avalon, also one of my favourites)

As for Crusade, its been AGES since I've seen the show but my favourite epsiode would have to be the X-Files one, that just cracked me up :D

Oh and the one where Galen was an evil grand vizier in a castle build by the ancients where he tries to kill Colonel Sheppard... oh wait that was Stargate Atlantis :P
 
I love "Severed Dreams" - I used the fight in that episode many many moons ago as part of a university presentation on CGI in TV :lol:
 
I've got to say, I can't really pick out a favourite EPISODE.
I love the series as a whole, and certain bits of most episodes really stick out and keep me watching it over and over again (Ivanova: "I will personally move your seats out the door, down the hall and straight into the fusion reactor!"). But episodes? No. Can't pick one.


Movies, though...
In the Beginning hands down. Great battle sequences, Londo's speech was absolutely perfect. And wonderful foreshadowing (that, unfortunately, the series never really caught up to...)
And A Call To Arms was good too...

Ships fighting

What i hate
Technomages.
Thiefs like from D&D.
Any mystical in it.
Episodes without ships fighting.
My ideal episode yet to made is
Technomages getting wiped out in huge space battle.

My favourite battle scence is probably In the beginning when the Olympus attacks the Sharlins & second is The Narn attacking the shadows at Gorash 7.

Soul Mates (Londo's wives! especially that whole line from Timov about "I have no interest in your sexual olympics")

The Long Twilight Struggle (Narn vs Shadow battle, the bombing of Narn)

Severed Dreams (what's not to love)

Into The Fire (the whole Order vs Chaos debate)

It has to be Severed Dreams and Endgame for episodes. Brutal EA vs EA no holds barred scrapping and ramming with the use of real physics.

For the films it has to be In the Beginning. Not for the fight scenes though. The best two pieces are the quote by Londo about how Humans fought on no matter how bad the odds were, and the other one is the speech from the President before the Battle of the Line. That is one of the few quotes that brings a tear to my eye. The sheer hopelessness of their situation and yet they were still willing to take the fight to the Minbari, no matter the cost.
