Fast and Fun Starship combat

Hello all,

Given the huge amount of official, semi-official and fannon material for Traveller, I figure there must have been at least a few quick, abstract starship combat systems written for traveller over the years.

I'm asking for any links or leads to very quick and simple starship combat rules. I'm not interested in anything that needs any kind of mapping or miniatures.

Thanks

The MgT rules don't really require mapping or miniatures, but if you are wanting something 'very quick and simple' just use a single, skill check like roll till fight is over...

Heck, flip a coin - head side A wins, tales they don't.

That would handle the 'fast' - however, most would probably find it lacking in the 'fun' ;)

I'd roll for each side (unless one side gets an exceptional success) in 'turns' (not the six minute kind - just the Hollywood style 'fight' turns).

Ignoring balance issues and most of the technical 'accounting' one could apply crude DM's to address uneven matchups:
  • +/- 1 for applicable skills higher (highest gunner to hit/pilot to evade);
    +/- 1 for armoured/not
    +/- 1 for better guns or not (total D damages)
    +/- 1 for better countermeasures (whose DMs are better)
    +/- 1 for better defensive weaps (count)
    +/- 1 for faster/slower (M-Drive ratings)
For damage - make a simple table (probably d66) of 'what' got hit and to what degree. 'Effect' amount of roll could indicate number of times to roll on table. Applying results as needed to DMs...
