Fading Suns Background....

Mongoose
Hey guys love that a call to arms is back, but honestly i have absolutely no clue about the background for fading suns can someone give me a bit of a brief rundown on the background?

is it humanity split into diff factions? multiple factions at war? is it a hybrid?

Just currious to find out.

you can pick up the old rpg for pennies if their isn't enough info for you in S+P, or look at redbrick site, see whats what.

it's a kind of poor mans 40k in a way (minus aliens), backwards future tech, controled by the church and rich folks.
in fact, think feudal medieval, in space!

Quickie Question: I have the old RPG books for Fading Suns. Will there be RPG support by Mongoose, RedBrick or another company?

A lot of "Dune" as well, I think.

There are lots of bits from Dune, you wont find any Carriers in FS though, and most of the ships are really old, not many are manufactured anymore.

to be fair my beloved 40K was inspired alot by Dune as well

Plenty of Carriers in Noble Armada game.............unless you mean the big High Liners?

and plenty of new sculpts.

Carriers are mentioned in the Legions of the Empire Source book briefly and are a part of the 2nd Edition Noble Armada Game.

I think you may have meant Guild High Liners.

Maybe I should have been more specific, there are no Carriers in the RPG, in either FS2 or FS3.

Most of the ships are leftovers from times before, they have been repaired over and over.

There aren't many ships in FS2 at all really - an Al Malik explorer, a League merchantman and little else - most of the ships appeared in Noble Armada, I think, although there is a ship design sequence in FS2. Are there plans for RB to either tie FS3 in with ACTA: Noble Armada, or a supplement detailing the rpg versions of the ships?

Disagree If you look at the suppliments to Fading Suns 1st and 2nd ed. There are plenty of little extra ships.

Probably the Letters of Marque will be released at some time, and I think the team is hoping to try and match as much to ACTA: Noble Armada as we possibly can, where settings permit.

As ive said before the FS3 setting doesnt allow for the carrier class.

We brought in some new ships with the cover of the Shards Collection.

Umm, I was actually talking about just the rulebook, but point well taken - I borrowed a friends collection and there are a few small traders and explorers dotted through some of the supplements I saw.

Sounds great, but can I plead the case for a book similiar in style to the B5/Traveller "Warships of Babylon 5" book, where there is a bit of bumf on the vessel, some stats and a scaled down deckplan (mainly for reference) - I would find that probably much more useful than the Letters of Marque gaming deckplans.

That was the sort of thing we had in mind

We are indeed working closely with Red Brick on the FS/NA games.

The old Fading Suns Quick Start PDF provides a bit of background (bearing in mind it is only 16 pages and includes an intro to the rules of 2nd ed as well).

Red BRick are hosting it here:
