Extra power from Torpedo's

Hi all

Wanted to pose a question thats been on my mind for ACTA Starfleet
If plasma weapons have been fired is the power still available for a special action? Presumably the power still exists.

So far we've been assuming that if the weapon is not loaded you cannot de-activate it for extra power, which is probably correct but wanted to double check as this does make life v.difficult for the Romulans as they have less options for finding the extra power ie they cannot use the "May only fire phasers" option.

Power rules are very simple for ACTASF. Weapons are all assumed loaded and ready to fire at the start of the turn unless you have to use the Reload Special Action for things like Plasmas and Photons. There is not a option to reallocate power. Once you declare a Special Action and pick a Power Drain option your done. You can not "drain" the weapons to use that power somewhere else.

EDIT: Rereding your question are you asking can you hold a loaded and armed Plasma Torpedo and choose not to fire it this turn so you can use the, "May only fire phasers." Power Drain option? Yes, you can. The Loaded Torpedo just sits in the tubes until you choose to fire it regardless if it is held one turn or ten.

I think the question is

If a Romulan has fired its plasmas and then in a future turns wants to use a Power Drain special action it cannot use the option of turning off plasma as it doesnt have any, therefore to use a Power Drain special action it would have to use one of the other methods ie move only 6 or fire one weapon system only?

Doesn't matter, you can pick any of the 3 Power Drain penalties unless limited by damage.

In the source games, plasma tubes are either empty, holding a charged-up torpedo or reloading. Only the last consumes a large amount of available energy (and typically only on the final turn of arming, ACTA simplifies this a bit and sort of averages out the arming costs over the sequence), so you're not really "turning off" a torpedo tube to get extra power anyway.

Hi,

Thanks for your thoughts everyone, it does appear I've made the wrong assumption then

Very much appreciated

So are we saying Romulans can use the option of turning off Plasmas (for power drain) even when they dont have any loaded?

Just the same as orions have the option of turning off plasma (or other heavy weapons) even though they never even entered the game with anything but phasers.

You don't turn anythng off in game terms - you just decide which of the three options you are going to use as "power drain":

So fire one weapon
move 6" or less
Fire only phasers

Note that you can do the last even if the only weapon/s you are equiped with (or is still in operation) is phasers.
