Experimental Dilgar Ship: Results

WELL. I've tested the Okar'Tak Armageddon Dilgar ship I made, and Have noted that it generally seems very balanced.
- The Bolter Cannon works to get past ships with low hulls and High Interceptors, like the EA Olympus/Hyperion/Artemis. 4AD seems fair, considering it's really a secondary weapon.
- The ship survived firepower from two Sulusts and an ADIRA long enough to get close enough to unleash Pulsar and Bolter harshness and literally SHRED the Adira, Like the GEG wasn't even THERE. Concentrated firepower will do that.
- 14 AD bolters is enough. No more is needed.
- It acts as an excellent all around shooters. It'll deplete interceptors with the pulsars, or shred anything that has depleted interceptors. Closing distance is a little hard, even with a speed 8/12 with ApTE.

Ok, when you say balanced, do you mean it is balanced in terms of other things that don't involve you blasting away your opponent? There is more to being balanced then to be able to destroy everything you come across. Being balanced means your ship can actually be destroyed as well.

Yeah. It's kind of concerning that it can destroy what many consider the best Armageddon level ship along with two escorts.

Here's the problem; the Raid- level Dilgar Targrath throws twelve Bolter, six Pulsar and four Disruptor torp dice in the forward, or turret trainable forward, arc- trivial aft and no P/S fire other than the turret.
The Battle- level Kahtrik throws ten Bolter, twelve Pulsar, eight Disruptor, and twenty Mass Driver dice in the fore arc- only six dice pulsar in each other arc.
The war level Mankhat throws six Pulsar and ten Bolter dice in each arc, eight additional Disruptor and ten Mass Driver dice forward.
Extreme verging on grotesque levels of firepower are not a problem of the Dilgar fleet list; they're a feature. WickedE's design is relatively restrained by comparison.
The basic trick is, can the Dilgar's massive firepower and moderate survivability blow the enemy to incandescent bits before their usually tougher but less well armed opponent can dispose of them? It is not impossible, but definitely tricky.
New ships should not inevitably be inferior to established designs; they should do something different, expand the tactics and gameplay available to the fleet in some way, otherwise there's little point, and be good enough to have a fighting chance of succeeding at it's design objective. That it blew away another Armageddon level ship is not a problem. If it does so consistently and easily, then there would be a problem.

Well the way it's stated "Shred the Adira like it's GEG wasn't even there" sounds like "with ease" to me. Especially since both the Adira and a pair of Sullusts had been blasting away at it.

The ship is certainly well within the Dilgar's power curve and not overpowered by the looks of things.

As for it shredding an Adira - sometimes that happens, particularly when you're hoping to see your new creation succeed and you subconsciously favour it in the positioning of ships on the battlefield.

Well there was that lucky 6-6 Crit...and subsequent 6-5 crit, so really, the GEG WASN'T THERE.

Basically, lucky critical hits blew the Adira away. Subsequent games ended very differently, with the Adira Plus Escorts Dismantling the Okar'Tak before it got within range, with a few select crits including a 0 speed crit.
Then there was it versus about three Drakh Cruisers. Drakh Cruisers suffered substantial damage, but the Precision on the beams caused crits that hindered the Okar'Tak before causing a 4-6 that ended it pretty much.
Then there was it versus a Drakh Mothership. Let's just say the Drakh got shredded, though not without causing serious damage to the Okar'Tak and taking out its two escorts.
If anything, I might need to lower the speed down to 6-7.
