Eurofighter / typhoon / Ef2k

Hmmm, out of interest, are there any plans fot the X-47 to make an appearence?

Admittedly it's a B-2 replacement rather than a strike aircraft (IIRC) but it's still pretty darn scary and expendable in comparison.

will there be pics of the flight stands soon! :D
I'm looking around for some nice sturdy ones that can carry some weight, in clear plastic, which is what i'm hoping yours will be:)

The stands would have to be tough. Something I realized early that at 1/65th scale a JSF would be 8in long give or take. I don't think the model would be heavy, but thats a lot of plastic to deal with..

I don't like UCAVs, I'm a pilot by nature, and I don't like seeing flight being taken away from the person.

Last time I looked people couldn't actually fly.

You never read Superman? ;)

I have to agree though. UCAVs may be 'better' but I trust them less (forget the Terminator scenario, it just makes it easier for stuff to be subverted I feel). Plus it's just not as cool as seeing a human pilot.

That's proboably why i enjoy it so much. I'd be in th airforce right now if it wasn't for my poor eyesight.

As for UCAVs, I doubt we'll be seeing and Stealth EDI like AI, it'l probably take some years more for UCAVs to become prominant, but a friend of mine thinks that the JSF may be the US's last manned combat fighter.

I hope not. UCAVs may be practical but there's precious little romance left in war as it is. The dashing fighter pilot may be the last of the 'knights' and it would be a shame to lose him.

i think the new dashing knights are Gunship pilots to be honest they do much more risky missions than Air pilots. just my point of view any way.

But when you can destroy your target by sending a few pilotless planes over and kill a load of people without even seeing anything it becomes ever easier for you to choose that as a solution...

Its already difficult enough with piloted planes, plus the various long range guided munitions around these days. If you have the option of waging war at no risk to yourself beyond the cost of a lost robot you find it much easier to wage war in the first place. Unless both sides end up fighting a virtual war with remote control tanks and planes, someone somewhere is going to get killed.

The solution isn't really trying to make war less costly in human life because it will inevitably be so, but not fight wars at all (however I personally have to low an opinion of human nature to ever believe that will happen...).

Not sure what the RN propose to do about the F-35K? they are supposed to get as some bright spark at MOD has worked out that the aircraft is to heavy as it stands for the proposed length of flight deck on the two future carriers the RN is supposed to be getting. I have read that the current thinking is to reduce the weapons load so the damn thing can get up in the air never mind the purpose of the mission "see I told it was an aerodynamic house brick" MOD official thinking bang two brain cells together and you get joined up government thinking. Anyone thought of lengthening the flight deck then doooo !!! seeing as the carrier(s) are still on the drawing board but that is going to cost more money, I know lets do away with the hull that will work.

It's official, the F-35 is now the Lightning II, and I am personally disapointed, I was hoping for a more fitting name. I personally love the F-35, its nearly as capable of the F-22 but it costs a fraction of the price. The only bad things about it is having a single engine Navy fighter, and it only carries 4 weapons in stealth mode... I was wrong btw, B is Marine, C is Navy.

Really? I haven't heard that from the project office and I share beers with many of them.

They considered 'Spitfire' for it...

Yup, that would have been sacrilege! However, naming it after one of the RAF's other notable fighters seems fitting :D

Well, this is from the American side, I'm not sure if the RN will call it something differant. I think its kinda funny because the YF-22 was called Lightning II unoffitially by Lockeed, then when the AF adopted it they changed it to Raptor.

Knowing the RN it will inevitably get some sort of pornographic nickname, no matter what the official designation is! :D
