Equipment for Loyal Followers

One Mercenary that has fought alongside the force in a past battle may be taken into the force as a permanent member, allowing them to be bought weapons, armour and equipment,

Given that most mercenaries have no listed options for equipment, and those that do are extremely limited, how does this work exactly?

For example, do mercenaries gain the equipment options and limits of their equivalent from a regular force list? If I got a Senior Judge as a loyal follower, could I buy them a lawrod or a second lawgiver? What if the mercenary doesn't have an equivalent in any force list, are there any options for adding equipment?
