Just one more word about ducks though, indirectly, if ducks are so much of a problem to D20 guys, and Ive heard most defend D&D, how come you can all accept a monster that looks like a ceiling, or a floor? Or a giant, floating eye? Or a monster called a Black Pudding? The list could go on...

Conan, ok, its staying D20, those crazy Mongoose kids. I cant imagine what this special project could be,

We are putting Ducks into Conan. . .

My nature scholar is TOTALLY shifting into a duck next time. Screw giant eagle, I should've gone giant duck!

though the mini might be hard to find!

The problem with Ducks is that although they are actually a very interesting concept, in theory, in actual practice when they show up in a scenario they are almost always played for laughs, with immersion-breaking humour. Fine theory: execution needs work.

Yeah, maybe at first. I suppose its the difference between, say, a werewolf and a wererabbit, its just a step too far. Theres a point where the suspension of disbelief is difficult to maintain. It says more about people than it does about the concept of anthropomorphic birds.

I never used cloakers or sentient jellies in my D&D games for pretty much the same reasons.

Now, that's bad news... . I almost thought for a time the Hyborian world was about to have a decent rule system... We"ll have to stick to lousy D20, then, in a Dysneylike world where all barbarians rage, all thieves sneak attack, all guards are 2nd level soldiers and all pirates tie better knots when aboard a ship... Endless Feats and number crunching. That's not the future I would have foreseen for a fast paced savage S&S setting.

Its not the future you're getting either!

I'll just add this to my list of things to quote next time you claim to be an objective judge with nothing personal against d20... :P

Duck-men blow chunks.

Lizard-men and/or Serpent-men are all kinds of cool.

Conan RPG - a cold blooded game. 8)

Go ahead, as it seems you have nothing better to to do with your life than quoting my posts...

Can I get part I on DVD? It sounds cool and I hear Azgulor is quite the babe-magnet, so I'm hoping to see lots of wenches whilst I drink my ale!

ANNND on that note, I'm gonna have to say game-set-match to Kintire!

All in good fun, Herve. All in good fun.

I swear, the voice that reads that in my head is Homestar Runner.

Wait, does that increase or decrease my cool-factor? Hmmm.

Screw it.

The Master of Objectivity, part II.

One more (Failed my damn Will Save again. Concubine, take note to take Iron Will next level!!):

Pot, meet Herve, Herve Kettle. Say, are you two related? 'Cause the resemblance is... well, you look like twins.

Well, as always, kintire and his bootlicking pet came into the thread and we stopped talking about Conan and gaming to talk about me and start a new flamewar.

Could anybody tell them to stop before I get really gross?

Of course that's what happened. It wasn't in any way that Herve (self proclaimed Paragon of Objectivity) launched his same old "d20 SUCKS!" rant, and then whinged when people attacked it.

Because, folks this post right here:

We"ll have to stick to lousy D20, then, in a Dysneylike world where all barbarians rage, all thieves sneak attack, all guards are 2nd level soldiers and all pirates tie better knots when aboard a ship... Endless Feats and number crunching.

Never happened.

Or it did, and you 'choose' to view and treat it in a way that seems rather colored by prior interaction with the author as opposed to based purely on what was written.

So Herve doesn't care for D20. Old news.

Or for those that it isn't old news to, I would wager probably not something so very provocative or comment worthy.

You needn't agree with Herve, and I don't expect you to. Or most on this subforum, as it is the Conan d20 subforum.

Yet I honestly grow tired of the d20 fans having apoplectic rages over other Conan fans voicing a preference for something other than d20.

Except that's not what happened. Herve got called on a concrete example of where his self-proclaimed objectivity didn't ring true. Herve doesn't like d20 - old news, I agree. Also in the Old News Archives - Conan OGL is NOT D&D, though those who don't like d20 & OGL-based games LUUUUUV to portray it as such.

I tire of d20-nay sayers turning anything contrary statement into "closed-minded d20 lover, if only you saw the one true way". I am NOT saying that's what you just did. I AM saying, embarrassing as it may be, that it's one of my buttons that seems to get pushed.

In any case, I've contributed more to off-topic conversation than I ever intended, so apologies folks. I created a separate thread for my final answer to Herve from this thread.

Good gaming, everyone.
