Seems the guy behind the film version of The Golden Compass may be bringing Elric to the big screen

Ooh juicy!

They had a misspelling ni that article! It originally said Michael Woodcock. I'm sure a bunch of us contacted them and complained about that. I know I did. But according to your link it is now fixed! I'm glad to see it.

They have been talking about there being a movie for a number of years. I'm hoping they do make it. (Don't get me wrong.) I want it done correctly. I don't want it messed up. I want it too be an epic scale movie!

They described the Elric Saga as "Tolkien-esque"? Something tells me the writer hasn't only never read the books but was also too lazy to do a little research. Well...that's SciFi for ya!

Actually, if you read the article, instead of latching onto the LoTR reference, you'll not that they mention that the Elric series has a dark, almost nihilistic theme to it.

OR at least this quote from one of the would-be producers about getting a director should at least be note:

Chris Weitz said that he and his brother plan to produce but not direct the film, envisioned as the first in a trilogy. "You've got to find the right director who can appreciate kind of the tone of it, which is a sort of interesting, kind of nihilistic yet very rich tone,"

Well, I hope they do a great job. Sometimes, hollywood makes it too condensed.

Concidereing you have to take several books into to two or three movies, helps with condensing it, and in the process they take out more than they put in it...

Moorcock has mentioned on his forums that when sorting out the screenplay with the Weitz brothers, they already decided to re-envision the saga, cut some characters, merge other characters together, rework storylines etc etc, with the idea that book and film are different media, so there's little sense in trying to directly reproduce one with the other. Mike has also said that his long-time readers might want to look at the film as another version of the Elric tale from some other branch of the multiverse, an interpretation that I quite like. I have to say that I'm quite looking forward to seeing what the changes are - keeps it interesting for old fans while still being true to the original spirit.
