Elric Campaign (Google Site)

Cosmic Mongoose
Hey Guys,

Here is the link to our EoM campaign for those that are interested. It's a bit light-on at the moment, but as we progress through the campaign and time permits we'll flesh it out. I'm going to try and keep it updated each week I DM (roughly for 1 month in every three).

I managed to get hold of a copy of Sailing on the Seas of Fate by Chaosium and ran the scenario, Curse of The Whisperer.

Does anyone know if Mongoose plan on publishing or where I can get MRQ11 scenarios for Elric?

Nice session writeup. I have Sailing on the Seas of Fate, and it made me want to run that scenario. Melnibonean battle barges are cool!

Did you do any conversion beforehand from Elric! to RQII rules with the stats and magic in the scenario or you just improvised as you went along?

As for new adventures, I think the Cities of the Young Kingdoms book contains a mini-campaign. Dream Realms (for MRQ1 Elric) also has one longish scenario.

There are a few cool scenarios for the old ruleset here:

I used a basic spreadsheet that I have to convert the main foes and pirates (from Runequest, Pirates) across to MRQII using their published stats and adjusting the skills etc.

There was a little bit of improvisation as well: I deliberately played the Avatar as single mindedly trying to drag the ship to the depths otherwise it would have resulted in a TPK. I didn't think that was appropriate for beginning characters in their first adventure with a new system.

I will certainly be using Loz's forthcoming book for a Young Kingdom campaign.
I'm hoping to pitch a few pieces for S&P set in the Dakwinsi Steppe region ( Kardik nomads and the city of Xanardwys ) and hopefully a further article will give an outline for a campaign linking all the material.

BTW: I forgot to say thanks for the comments Smiorgan, appreciate it. I was trying to keep it brief, but to the point with just enough detail to jog the PC's memories of significant events.

I'll check out that Stormbringer link as well. I think I've downloaded an adventure or 2 from there already.

What you're doing Havercake sounds interesting. Let us know how that goes.

If you can get hold of Mongoose's 'Elric Companion' it includes 'She Dreams of Empires' a scenario by Loz with the option to stretch it into a longer adventure.

Mongoose's own OOP Games has the Companion up regularly on Ebay

Edits: Oops, just realized you're in Oz. Sorry for the tease.

Finally got the chance to get a look at your campaign. Looking good man. :D You and Akrasia are tempting me to start recording my own Elric campaign. We just completed our second session yesterday and it's going particularly well, except for the part where the 6pt Demon of Protection rolled a fumble, fell over, lost three combat actions and promptly got destroyed. This left it's master at the mercy of three player characters and a sidekick.
Damn the dice!!!!!!! :x

Hey cool read.
As you know I'm a big fan of the Elric RPG in it's many incarnations, so it's good to read how other people play out the game.

Don't I know how you feel! I LOL when I read that!

Thanks for the comments guys. I'll be posting up last weeks session tomorrow night.

Just read your session 10. It's moving along at quite a brisk pace isn't it? How long is one of your sessions and how often do you get to play?
Exactly how big is the Tear of Lasshar BTW? It's a really interesting item and I like the idea of a single tear shed for estranged brothers theme you've gone with. 8)
Estrangement and redemption are the recurring themes of my campaign and make for great roleplaying. Keep it up Damonjynx. Elric of Melnibone is alive and kicking (in at least a half dozen groups) :D
Now roll on Hawkmoon and Corum :!: :D

3.5-4.5 hours depending on when we start. For the most part we play every Saturday night, but we share GM'ing duties so we play Elric for about 6 weeks out of 18

To be honest I can't remember the size of it (10 maybe?) and I have no idea of what it does yet, save that is such a powerful artefact that Grome sends a Pukwadji warrior through the time streams to locate those who would misuse it, punish them and return the Tear to ... It was part of a background one of my players created before we started play (the Pukwadji of course), the shame is he hasn't been available to play and I was just kind of introducing it, setting it up for when he does manage to take part and the mongrels gazumped me. Now I've got to do a bit of work for tonight's (mis-)adventure and I've got about 1/2 an hour to do so!

Thanks for the encouragement Tarkhan. Glad you're enjoying it! Yours is looking pretty good as well. Very well developed characters!

I'm just posting up session 11 which was...interesting.

I read an article somewhere, perhaps on the D&D site, about introducing time travel to a campaign because of the paradoxes it creates, well I've just done my own head in, let alone the players. I think that's a bit of an issue when you're making it up as you go, one spur of the moment decision and a cascading number of issues.

One good thing though, one of the PC's has managed to get 5 CA (3 base, 1 for Axe & Shield combo, 1 for Combat Acuity gift) because of what happened in the session I should be able to divest him of one which is a bit of a relief...

I just finished posting session 11 and would really like some feedback, being in uncharted territory as it were.

I'm thinking that because of their (well the Pan Tangians actually) actions the following would be appropriate:

  • Gregorious has a shift in gender and as such suffers a -1D4 penalty to strength.
All Pan Tangian PC's now suffer a -1D4 to Charisma
Both of the above results from removing that particular DNA strand from the racial gene pool.
Also, the Deathbringer cultists now only use a 2 Handed Axe (removing the extra CA the Melnibonean has).

Does that seem fair, or is it OTT?

Hi damonjynx, finally managed to read session 11.

It would appear to me that your characters have been transported to the World of the Fifteen planes at a pre Chronicles of Corum period.Am I right?
Do you have the Corum book that was released by Darcsyde in the 90's? It's pretty good and has some nice ideas in it as well as some nice adventure hooks.
I noticed that Glandyth a Krae is on your npc list, so I assume that your characters may bear witness to the events of the first Corum trilogy(if that's the way you decide to go). I can certainly see the Pan Tangians being keen to sack a Vadhagh castle.
Regarding some of the changes that you are planning. I would avoid the gender change scenario unless you discuss its implications at length with the player. Whilst he may be cool with playing a female character, he may not be so cool with the proposed strength loss.
Also, what's your thinking about the proposed CHA loss for the Pan Tangians and the 2H axe thing for Deathbringer cultists?
Keep it coming dude. 8)
I Have finished the run down of the PC's ,NPC's and Timeline on my thread. Hopefully now,I can get to the action......

Absolutely. I'm proposing that the Chaos worshipping Mabden of Corum's first cycle were 'relocated' to the YK as the founders of Pan Tang.

Do you have the Corum book that was released by Darcsyde in the 90's? It's pretty good and has some nice ideas in it as well as some nice adventure hooks.

Unfortunately not. Though I may get it at some stage.

Actually no, I just pinched him to use as an adversary. In one of the earlier sessions the Captain of the slave ship used the term Shefanow and the Pan Tangian recognised the word though the Captain was obviously not Pan Tangian. There was no further investigation before the Captain was slain. So at a later stage once "their" ship had disappeared (have to be careful not include any spoilers) the Pan Tangian owner, one Glandyth-a-Krae, a Sword Master in the Cult of the Sword Rulers re-takes possesion by boarding the ship with his Dendlesysi and removes the old crew and replaces it with a new one etc.

Regarding some of the changes that you are planning. I would avoid the gender change scenario unless you discuss its implications at length with the player. Whilst he may be cool with playing a female character, he may not be so cool with the proposed strength loss.

I didn't end up going with the strength loss, but I re-created his character, re-rolling his abilities and adjusting his skills as appropriate. While he wasn't overjoyed he accepted the changes. He actually improved in some area's and there was little change in others mainly to background, which meant that Theleb K'aarna is now not their enemy. See the session 12 post which I'll put up sometimes this week. The Melnibonean was more upset that he lost a CA! Oh, well, don't copulate with the past and you won't have these 'issues'.

Also, what's your thinking about the proposed CHA loss for the Pan Tangians and the 2H axe thing for Deathbringer cultists?
Keep it coming dude. 8)

I'm keeping the 1D4 CHA penalty for all new Pan Tangian PC's - I don't expect many. This is what happens when you mess with the past and change a races gene pool. When they returned to the 'Tardis' they watched as time sped up and Chadros & Hionhurn visited the Mabden clan to sow the seeds for the Deathbringer Cult, hence they only use 2H Axes now.

I Have finished the run down of the PC's ,NPC's and Timeline on my thread. Hopefully now,I can get to the action......

Thanks Tarkhan. Look forward to reading more of yours! They're on a mission, kind of, to thwart the Cult of Cran Liret from resurrecting their master...
