Element Class Cruisers UNREP

Are the UNREP system described on page 36 of the ECC book, the "Internal Transport Carriage" illustrated on that page and the "Transport" identified as item 11 on the Forward Section - Deck 2 schematics all the same thing? I assume people could use it, but don't regularly or that would have been called out.

The reason I'm wondering if they are different is that the Amara is 3/4 of a kilometer long, meaning it could take 8 or 9 minutes to walk from one end to the other at a brisk pace. Having a person transport system makes some sense. Obviously it can be whatever I need it to be, but I'm curious if anybody has thoughts on how it was intended to be use or has used it in a game in some fun way.

That is actually a good question. I think there may be some confusion as to what an UNREP system is.

The UNREP system is described on page 47 of High Guard and is intended to assist moving fuel and cargo between two ships. It is listed on the ship sheet and consumes 10 tons of space. It is also included on the blueprints as item 29 on the Forward Section - Deck 2 schematic (about 1/3 of the way down the "neck" on the left hand side), it looks to be the correct size.

While page 36 of ECC could be describing the UNREP system correctly, I think you are correct that it is referring instead to the transport tube system as I can find no mention of the transport tube otherwise in the book. I assume that the transport tube is intended to move personnel and cargo quickly between the fore and aft sections of the ship, more likely personnel given that it starts in the living quarters, ends in the engines and does not go near the cargo bays in the aft section.

Good catch that the UNREP system is called out separately on the deck plans. I also like your observation that it isn't particularly well placed for cargo (more likely cargo isn't well placed for it) and so it is probably intended for people.

How fast does it move? It is intended to supplement a 10 minute walk, and inertial dampening is a thing, so I'm going to guess it is pretty fast. If it traveled at 30kph it could go from one end to the other in a little under 2 minutes. A fast runner could get ahead of it, which I like as a possible plot point during an adventure. With time for stops a car could make a loop in about 5 minutes which is convenient.

How many people fit in a car? From the schematics, it looks about the size of a stateroom. So you could probably pack a dozen people in tight for a short ride.

How many cars? I'm going to guess that there are only 2.It's a loop, but 2 lets you have 1 car always headed in each direction. They're probably independent, but can't pass each other.

I'm pretty sure you can traffic people a lot faster through a dedicated personnel airlock.

My take on a dedicated replenishment conduit is for liquid and really awkward solid cargo transfers.

UNREP seems to me to be a somewhat awkward attempt to translate fuel & cargo transfer between ships on the high seas, and perhaps fuel replenishment of flying aircraft, to space ships. I don't really see the point. Perhaps high speed fuel transfers.

I think people are missing the point of the original post -- probably my fault for putting UNREP in the title. I wasn't so much asking about the ECC UNREP as commenting that there seems to be a transport system on the deck plans and wondering what the details around it might be. The transport system seems to be briefly described on page 36 of the ECC book and mistakenly labeled as the UNREP system.

I'm not proposing that the UNREP has cars and holds a dozen people -- I think the transport system that runs down the spine of the ship might do that.

LIke the original Batlestar Gallactica, during alerts the warriors can be seen riding one on occasion.
