editing an honest opinion

Mongoose
ok,

I'm heading off to my FLGS tomorrow. B5 2nd ed is on my list of probable purchases. However, I need an honest answer... the editing: how is it? I owned B5 1st ed and loved much of it BUT the obvious lack of editing/spellchecking REALLY annoyed me. I need to know if this has been addressed at all... and please be truthful.

The number of typos and minor mistakes is, in my opinion, staggering. In a professional work, anyway. Is there anything completely incomprehensible? Nothing I've seen. As a wanna-be editor myself, it bugs the heck out of me, but the quality of the game outweighs the flaws.

The biggest flaw I've found is that space combat, as written, very nearly doesn't work. Add in the "armor damage" rule posted a few times in the forum here and you're back on track.

From what I've heard though, the 2nd edition is much better than the first. (I came in as a 2e player, so I wouldn't know...) The space combat and influence systems alone are worth while, and those are both new. I'd say go for it, just be prepared to be irritated.

alot of the words are spelt the way they are in england but other than that it is relly good book i love it!

And well they should be, seeing as Mongoose is an English company :)

Our American friends frequently forget that "English" is the correct language, and that they changed the spelling of words not us ;) As such our words are the correctly spelled ones heh...there is no such language as American, it is English, changing a few dozen words does not a new language make

ok now no fighting here, because remember when it comes down to it we are all the same race.

Race was never an issue so im not sure why you brought that up? We're speaking of language.

And there is no fight, well, I certainly wasnt fighting at any rate, just simply stating fact. And James reply didn't come across to me as aggressive either, so I don't think you need worry about a potential flame war :D

It always surprises me a little is all, when some people are genuinely surprised that the spelling and grammar are English, not American, when there isnt actually a language "American". The language is "English", the regional dialiect is "American", but people shouldn't be confused that American is a language as it isn't.

With regards to editing, their is the odd gaff here and there but the editing quality has improved significantly since the early days of Mongoose. Though as ever some people will find flaws where they may, as it is human nature to focus on the negative, not the positive sadly.
