EA Warlock

Ive only ever seen 3 Armageddon ships used in normal games: the Victory, the Vorlon Heavy Cruiser and the Shadow Ship (and in the last case only because its a Shadow ship and just had to be used really, otherwise it would have been 2 hunters every time)....

Yeah thats about right - I've fielded a Shadow Ship in campaign (because it was a Shadow Ship and the Ships are cool ;) ) Reaverman won the ID Gaming Fleet Admiral tourney (5pt War) with a Vorlon Heavy Cruiser and Burger fielded a Victory in the same tournament. Saying that our Centauri player, Adam, would have fielded an Adira (he assembled and painted it and everything but couldn't make it) for that tournament...as for the rest? Well...maybe we would have seen some if the models were there ;)

Sorry, I just did not think the Warlock was that great from what I saw in SFOS, but I thought a broken version is not necessarily bad. I have had luck against the Minbari playing a variety of races, but I have yet to see a ship that looks as if it can really stand up to a Sharlin in the EA fleet. Outside of the shadow omega, that is and that is in its own class.

The crusade lists seems weighted towards the higher PLs but I guess that is what the EA needs. And I am more than willing to give the ARM or WAR Warlock a try. Where ever it ends up.

Well it IS going to War, that much is confirmed, and I also know for a fact its stats are changing down from the Arm version, more than that I cant say (dont know much more than that myself anyway)

If at first you dont succeed, spam spam and spam again :P

Seriously though it will be nice to dust off what is for me, by far the coolest looking mini for the EA :)

Nah, I have to disagree, I think the Nike is the coolest, so what if it's not official, lovely model.

Actually I'll give you that, the Nike is very very cool, but the Warlock is certainly the coolest OFFICIAL mini :P

Speaking of which I really should get round to actually PAINTING mine at some point :P

its not down much from the arma one at war. in fact i think its possibly one of the best ships at its PL currently (maybe after the sharlin). definately a ship the EA will want to use. but then the posiedon is serious competition for it at that level too.

SFoS is the one that was,
Armageddon is the one who is,
2nd Ed is the one who will be.

'Tis a good one! :D

Yeah 2e is making quite a few people nervous and makes em mess up with the stats ^^.

Tell me about it, I'm a playtester and it's a nightmare playing tournaments at the moment as they're going back not only to Armageddon stats but some of the rules too! (I didn't CAF once during the last tournament!)

And the Command Omega! ;)

Which brings up a question.

How would you paint it? Would it have the typical EA color scheme or would it be darker due to the Shadow-tech thing, like a solid black or very dark gray with shading?

And sorry for jumping to conclusions. Tend to do that somewhat.

from a fluff point of view:
normal grey, because they are trying to hide the fact that they are using shadow tech

from a painters point of view:
Do whatever you think would make the model rock the most 8)

I would do it like all the rest of my EA, I do them normal EA grey and dark blue but I give the whole think a black ink wash afterwards to make it nice and dark :D

Not really shadow tech as such I just think it looks better :P

THose do look good.
I am terrible with washes! I tried to do a black wash on some nice dark red tyranids I painted once. Looked absolutely horrible.

I find balck washes over red dont work to well if you do a really thin wash as it tends to look a bit splodgey and the bright colours show through too much. If you use a nice dark red to start with works better.

I find anyway that if you water washes down too much it just goes all steaky and crap though so I tend to do quite dark strong wasehs and touch up/highlight as needed. Im certainly no master painter but ink washes as far as Im concerned nearly ALWAYS vastly improve the look of a mini :D

Slightly off topic, but try a Blue ink wash over red. You get a very dark purple in the deep areas, and a less dirty effect overall that I think looks a lot better.

I felt that the tourney version of the Warlock seemed about right. It was a pretty hefty brawler and could pack a punch (especially at close range with heavy missiles) but it's broadside weapons were fairly weak meaning that more manouvrable Battle PL ships could really hurt it if they stayed out of the front arc.
