Getting a criminal record [1] can effectively get you canned from being a Citizen - and upsetting the wrong crime boss could mean having to abandon your puruits as a Rogue.

You can be a Scientist, a Noble, a Lord of a very large estate indeed, and still wind up a Drifter - particularly if your whole damned species got burned in a war and you're the last of your kind.

Drifter is not a career choice. It's where you end up. And in the Doctor's case, it's running.

I ALWAYS, have at least one player, that will get kicked out of every career, and end up Drifter. Then, they get kicked out of Drifter.

Since there has to be some repercussion for getting the boot out of a career, but you can always go be drifter, I tend to make them re-enter the drifter career as a different type of drifter.

In my book - if you're booted out of every career - then its time to become a Traveller
