Drazi Sunhawk question

Mongoose
What size base should the Drazi Sunhawk be on? The reason I ask is that everyone I have brought comes with a big base and yet on the Mongoose site is says small base. The problem continues when you look at the pic of what you get in the new fleet box and all the Drazi ships are on big bases. So now I am confused as what size base they are meant to be on.

to play the game it dosent matter what size base its on, but for your minni not to fall over while playing the bigger base should be better

There is no official base size. There is a PDF somewhere that tells you what size bases are normally used, but it is in no way official. It says large. I have removable bases, so I can fit small or large.. I usually use small, so they can manouver better, lining up all those boresights is much easier when they're not tripping up on each other.

na, i got a gquan once on the middle size base, that fell straight over, lol.
use what suits you best, all measurments etc are from the centre stem not the base

The rules say bases are not allowed to overlap, so using a smaller base can sometimes be an advantage (when you need to cram ships into a small space) or a disadvantage (when your opponent does so). But of course your ships should be stable. So find a compromise :)

Small bases are a major advantage that should be used by the competitive gamer whenever available. This is a rules loophole that was sadly not addressed by the newest release.

This, paradoxically, make it an advantage to use the old AoG minis over the newer Mongoose miniatures.

Don't ask; I don't get it, either.

only if you play the massed 20 ships in the middle trying to turn game, me i've never seen that problem in any game but triggys 15 abbai ship swarm

On the other hand a few bases with....say....6" on them would be useful if you don't want to deal with fighters.

Fighters could "enter" the bases of ships in 1st ed, so how would that help? (asuming that hasn´t changed in 2nd Ed.)

do youself a favor a buy a bag of small 1" flying bases from GW or similiar. they're quite useful for these medium sized ships.

I use large gw bases for my big ships. When I got the shadow box all the big shadow ships had the tiny mongoose bases, looked like a recipe for the wobbliest models ever. No, I take that back, my mates hormagaunts hold that prize. I watched him play a game once, and ended up being the official gaunt stander upper.

To keep people from "cheesing" the system, surely the "offical" PDF from Mongoose must be the correct base sizes.

The problem with that is that ships are not always suplied with the same bases, sometimes you get the small ones, sometines it´s the big ones. So you cannot always use the correctlysized bases, because you just don´t have them.

And since you cannot order Mongoose bases in any set (you can order them as parts over the online store, but that´s expensive as hell), many gamers tend to use GW bases whenever they need any spare parts.

I'd stick the Drazi on the larger base, the models are roughly the same width and length so you won't get other ships much closer anyway. And they'll be far more stable. Don't want your paintwork getting chipped !

Personally, I wouldn't use the smallest base for anything bigger than a Hermes or thereabouts for those reasons. The centre point is all that matters for the rules, other than overlap/stacking restrictions, and as I said model size is more of an issue there for most ships than base size anyway.

Use different height stands to get around that

Ahh, but Mongoose never actually made that list in the pdf official, it was merely drawn up in case official guidelines were ever needed.

You'd think we'd have an opportunity to deal with these issues elegantly once and for all with a new edition..... sigh.

Well given they allow such a wide range of minis, if an old AOG small size WS needs to be n the same size of base as a Mongoose size WS it's going to get interesting.
