Drazi Sunhawk question

exactly, you cant have official base sizes when theres so many differant minis allowed.
also like i said never much of a problem unless facing the abbai swarm of doom.
perhaps its more a problem for you czuschlag but never seen it myself.

Katadder - locally we find that ships with bores are often all trying to hit the same ship. We have found that eliminating any one ship is far preferable to hitting a variety of ships. This leads to issues with getting angle as you end up with three to five ships all trying to get in close to the same hull.

For the second turn run on the same ship the situation gets ridiculous. Using the large bases on my Drazi, as flown by myself and several other competent players, it has prove itself to be a major issue in firepower concentration. When Dave brought out his smaller scale hyperions on the small hex bases we saw exactly how much easier it was to get the firepower in place, starting at 18 inches away. Hardly waiting for the 'furball' there...

but we've all debated this back and forth...you guys across the Atlantic say its never an issue (or rarely at least), us Chicago locals find it's a huge swing in dice per turn. Shrug...you guys are closer to the writers...you win...

Maybe they're closer to the writers due to smaller base size

Even if never personally witnessed, one must admit that the inherent inconsistency could be a problem.

Our gamming group has never played with the 'no overlaping' rule. It just seems silly, why can't you go under or over a ship!? It's not that annoying to replace a model with a flying base when you really have to! (Or replace the height of the stem mid game, if you have numerous spare flying bases).

Fighters not being able overlap is also a little weird, we play that you can as it's easier to move them. (Also you can save money by just putting a dice next to the fighter stand to rep the number of squadrons! :D ) (When there are two different types of fighters it just means different coloured dice.)

Cheers,

That's exactly why you can only implement such a change when you go to a new edition --- the shapes of the counters are fundamentally different between those generated by the punch-outs or those created by the bases themselves. You can only correct a shape issue at publication time, so, with 2e not taking this bull by the horns, we're now forced to log our first request for 3rd Edition.

Which would devaluate the old counters, AND still leave the problem with the different allowed kinds of miniatures (FA scale...)

Why not just drop the "no overlapping" rule; is not like it´s an important integral part of the game mechanics; and since the actual position of the ship is represented by the stem anyway, I see no reason why the areas close to the ships (bases) can´t overlap. Unless minitaures tend to fall over because the area get´s to crowded, but I dont think that we need a rule to make players protect their ships from damage, now do we?

FA scale could have been supported by releasing the counter bases that Mongoose uses (large and small) with a hexagonal cutout that the FA bases could have securely fit in. To my knowledge, at its largest dimension, the FA hex base still is no larger than a small Mongoose base. Then, the FA ship could either take up the same space (when the FA base is in the circular base) or not (just take it out) freely. You also wouldn't need tons of discs -- you could put any hex base in any disk to conform to Mongoose basing specifications, while still using your FA miniatures.

However, with counters --- well, I guess I'll say this. I have a bunch of B5W wars counters I can't use anymore ... I don't consider that a crisis of the first kind.
