Drazi "attacker" bonus

Came up in the tourney last week...

The Drazi "Tactics - Quick & Decisive" bonus gives them a +2 initiative in any battle that they are "attacker".

The assassination scenario says that the attacking player chooses an assassination target for which they get +10 VPs. The modified scenario that is often used in tournaments, has both players choose an assassination target - therefore both players are "attacker".

So the question is, do the Drazi get +2 initiative in the modified assassination scenario?

I say yes, as no one else has answered.

one or both as attacker, makes no difference. a +2 initiative in any battle that they are "attacker"... rules as written man, don't second guess them :-)

You weren't available to ask, so we rolled a die. :)

Granted that my view is a bit affected by the fact that I was Burger's opponent, but I'd have said that you're only the attacker if the scenario specifically describes one side as the attacker (e.g. original Assassination) or it's your turn to attack in a campaign. There seems to be no mention of attacker in the tournament description. ;)

I was hoping to run ACTA at a convention later this year, although this will not now happen, and had come up with the idea of two-way Assassination independently from you (in fact I'd been play-testing it before I even heard of the Kettering tournament ;)). The Drazi problem never came up during testing, but I'd probably have ruled that as neither side is the clear attacker, it wouldn't apply.

For Campaign players it's easier ^^
When you decide which strategic target you want to attack you are ... the attacker. ^^

For one-fight games I would refer to the scenario, clearly in ambush you've got an attacker and a defender, for assassination both players can be seen as attackers and in a CTA or SpaceSup I would roll a die (My point of view)

For Annihilation I would allow both sides to be attackers :)

Doesn't that mean each player is an attacker and defender at the same time?
Yes precisely. Drazi are both attacker and defender. Since they're attacker, they should get +2 init. They shouldn't lose that bonus, just because they are also defender.

I think it fits the Drazi fluff, too. If high command say "this ship is important, we need it dead" then the Drazi would be more determined and aggrsssive, hence +2 init.

Well, that's the easiest one to swallow for me! ;)
