Dogfighting and Anti-fighter

[flight's AF trait] may be used just before a dogfight is initiated, as enemy fighters move into contact (if opposing fighters have the trait, they are resolved simultaneously). Once the dogfight has started, the trait may not be used.

I read that as saying that after all fighters are moved but before the first player declares dogfights, all fighters with AF may use it as they wish, except: flights in contact may only be the target of AF from the flights with whom they are in contact.

Once AF is resolved, dogfights proceed as normal and none of the flights involved may use AF again until the dogfights are completed--even if ties and/or multiple flights cause the dogfight to carry into later turns (since the dogfight has already started).

Is that a correct interpretation?

That's right, fighters get to use AF (either their own or donated by an escort) when enemy fighters first move into contact, before dogfighting is resolved, and flights that remain in contact for 2 or more turns can't use AF until the dogfight is resolved (not sure if a previously unengaged fighter making contact with a dogfighting group can be targeted, but think not).

Sounds right, though I'd probably resolve the AF fire as each flight moves, easier to keep track. YMMV.

Nope, you may not fire into a dogfight, that includes all AF fire. That includes AF fire that comes from another fighter.

I prefer resolving AF after they all move because it makes it easier to deal with escorts that want to lend AF to flights. It also means that players need to commit their flights before seeing the results of AF--no "that one got hosed by AF so I need to move another over there now" or the converse "that one missed AF so I need to send this one over to take another shot".

That's pretty much how I'd been reading it.
