Does gaining a commission grant a skill roll?

Does gaining a commission grant a skill roll? The rules do not seem to say that gaining a commission grants a skill roll, but I am wondering if this is an oversight.

I was under the assumption that you gain 1 skill roll per tour, one for a successful promotion and 1 for a commission if available for that career.

Ever since the Clement Sector was released I was starting to wonder if this was still the case?

Page 16 of the 2nd Edition book doesn't specifically say you get a skill roll like it does regarding advancements on page 17.

BUT, most Officer tables have an automatic skill for O1, so they will get that skill Commissioned.

BUT, a reasonable interpretation of the rules would be that a Commission is a type of Promotion, so the Referee can decide that a skill roll is warranted.

Personally, I would not give them an extra skill roll; but YMMV.

I think it can be termed unlocking an achievement.

Interestingly enough, ShadowRun has one character generation variant with terms, with selective life modules, though their skill range allows them to be more generous in handing them out; the terms are childhood, teenage years ten to seventeen, two or four year college, and subsequent four year terms.

No, the rules are clear: Advancement gains you a roll, Commission does not. Previous editions worked differently.

In your game you do as you like, of course.
