Diseases, poisons and opposed rolls

With the changes to opposed rolls in the players guide (if both fail no one wins) how are people handling diseases and poisons?

E.g. if a poison pot 54% versus resilience 42% contest ends with both failing, what happens?

Hi,

The likelyhood would be the player suffering minor fatigue and the onset of symptoms, but that they never come to fruition. Give them a scare, make them think they are ill. You know that feeling, when you are convinced you have a cold or flu, but then nothing happens.

In the case of a poison, it would be a queasy feeling, a short lived but worrying pain, but nothing more.

Perhaps the character drops a fatigue level for a short duration.

Trust me I am a nurse.

That would be my first approach however this does mean that poisons and diseases would be a lot less powerful than previously.

E.g. a previous contest of Manticore venom pot 50% vs resilience 50% would, unsurprisingly have ended up with 50/50 odds. Now though the poison is effectively resisted three times out of four as it has to both make its roll and overcome resistance.

This is not necessarily a problem but is worth bearing in mind.

2nd edition poisons were an absolute killer so a change might not be that bad.

The loss of con=the poison strength or even just 1/2 strength if you did not have an antidote has killed many a PC in my games, especially when already wounded just on a dice roll for which the PC has no control over.

Killing any PC just because the dice said so is a bit harsh and as a reuslt I had a tendency to avoid poisons
