Dice

What is it about dice?

I'm a gamer. I have the ubiquitous mounds of dice--all shapes and sizes--enough to last me many life times of gaming. I even have the stereotypical Crown Royal dice bag, though I don't use it to hold my dice anymore.

Yet, I happen upon a store this weekend, and I spy some really cool looking dice. So, yeah, I bought 'em. I bought the friggin' dice. Two sets. More friggin' dice.

But...they're so cool looking.

Something as simple as new dice has got me hankerin' to roll 'em in a game.

New dice!

I spent $14 bucks on 14 dice--a buck a piece! Stupid! I got robbed!

So, why do I feel so good about the indulgence?

And, why can't I wait to use 'em.

I mean, they're just friggin' dice!!

The Sunday I realize that I´ve lost my q-workshop Cthulu d20, and I was near to cry for the loss...

Just kidding.
I actually love using the dice calculator found here:

It so much easier and so much less math.
Plus you don't have the problem of dice rolling under sofas, dice fights (when a pc rolls 2 D10s and says the roll is 91, but everyone heard him say the "1" dice represented the first digit and the result should be 19).

Yeah, it takes away a lot of "perceived" chance and luck when the computer does it, but it is so much faster and less contentious.

That twenty sider in your hand--I wouldn't trade the feeling for anything. You slap it out on the table and hold your breath until it stops.

It's hypnotic.

One of my players always rolls two d20's. There's the one he's using, and the other one, he says, is just to keep it company.

You can't get that with a computer and digital read-out.

we have a black d20 that is called the "death die." one player has layed claim to it and gets all pissy if anyone else throws it. especially the GM. i hate when he uses it cus you can hardly see the damn numbers. then there's an ugly orange die with white numbers that is the "nice guy" die. it sucks and rolls low so only gets used by the GM when he wants to be nice to the players
we have a huge die bag that occasionally needs to be filled because of all the dice thrown in anger across the room, never to be seen again
