DEXCON 10 After Action Report

Dexcon 10, for B5, I think was a great success!
The schedule for events that I had put together for the convention changed a bit but that is understandable. I think the only two things that didn't get off the ground was the paint workshop, which I was a bit disappointed about, and the battle of Between the Darkness and the Light. Yet that was fine thanks to the great turnout we had as well as the great number of friends made and comrades found.

I first of all want to thank Flint for all his help in getting me ready for Dexcon 10 as well as offering his services, his equipment, and his hospitality. I am looking forward to working with you guys in the future (Flint and Mike). I also want to thank Bill (wrefsland on the boards) for his help in running B5. This guy and I know of each other from Time Warp Comics over in Cedar Grove, New Jersey. We never met till this weekend and boy did we hit it off. I am looking forward to running more big scale Bab 5: ACTA with you.

I would also like to thank Alex from Mongoose for coming by and supporting all of us. It was a pleasure to hang with you, I am sorry we didn't play each others games. I hope Historicon went well for you.

I especially would like to thank the folks at Dexcon: Mark, Rebbecca, and Vinny. You guys were a big help getting the organizing together and you guys have a great convention, this was my first time with you guys and it won't be the last! Thank you for the care you guys put into your GM's and staff.

Ok, onto the report:

Friday yielded few people. I did eventually get a table of four or five visitors learning the game. I ran a few demos with the scenario Escort Duty from one of the issues of S&P. Huge success and lots of interest for the two big scenarios that I had planned for Saturday. I regretfully had to leave early for personal reasons. The paint workshop as well could not be done on this day. Big success was the Shadows and Vorlons battle that took place later in the afternoon. This got us a huge response from the people in the war room.

Saturday was the big success. I met up with Alex from Mongoose as he set up for Battlefield Evolution and a Mongoose Pub booth. I set up my B5 for display and promptly started up some demos. Later on that day we organized for the Battle of the Line scenario.

Battle of the Line:
Two sides were set up with three people on each side controlling squadrons of ships from the Minbari and EA. On the EA side, Bill and I decided to set up several extra ships to make the scenario more realistic to the movie, "In the Beginning". We took some of Bills models of the space transports and gave them each a single bore sight rail gun. Also mixed up and lowered some of the ships from the scenarios FA point scale. We did this as well with the Minbari forces. Breaking down the fleet from the original 7 Sharlins to some smaller vessels to make things look bigger and give the players a few more ships to take care of. I have to thank Bill for the use of almost ALL of his models. It really made the battle look something fierce.

Results: We ended up in the end of the second round taking a single flight of Star Furries that were destroyed in the first volley by a Sharlin at the 15 flights and immediately hid it under that Sharlin. We rolled a die and considered the outcome of the third round. Upon the third round when the EA side had only one Nova left and two flights, we had the Minbari roll a crew quality check on the individual Sharlin that had taken the fight earlier in the scenario, he passed it revealing Jeffrey Sinclair and the Minbari forces pushed for a retreat and surrender.

Alex had given us some medals to give out to players with exceptional gaming skills. We had decided to give the purple heart to John who played one of the three squadrons of EA forces by ramming his crippled Olympus and rammed the Sharlin that almost destroyed him dealing out some great damage at the Minbari ship.

We also ran a free-for-all battle with one point of Armageddon that was used for a single ship or two war class ships. As well as Bill running an all League scenario involving a battle over an ore mining operation between the Vree, Drazi, Brakiri, and the Abbai.

Again the paint workshop didn't get off the ground but I think we made up for it in running demos and games for many people who were interested.

Sunday I will leave for wrefsland to talk about. I couldn't run anything and had to skip out on that day due to personal things I had to do that day but there was a great arena battle which I regret missing out on.

Overall:
I will post some pictures as soon as I get them off of my phone and get them from some of the people that were there. I would also like to get everyone who was there or others who saw it or wanted to come to the convention to get together in the next convention for a paint workshop dedicated to painting your fleets or individual ships. Let me know what you guys think of that.

End of report...

That was an awesome and epic scenario. The EA has nothing but sheer courage and tenacity on its side and their valiant sacrifice made me shed a tear, just like in the series. 8)

Wow, small world! I used to game at Time Warp way back and had gotten to know Bill there. Good people, he is. Don't know when B5's going to start up (Man, my Drakh still has to see the light of day!)but am looking forward to seeing familiar faces again.

Well PM me and I will give you my number and my email. I am sure Bill will let you know and I would most definitely let you know when we play! I want to play against the Drakh too!
