Deployment Zones

Hi all! So in most of the "standard" scenarios, if you loose the "deployment initiative" roll, it indicates you deploy first in "your own" deployment zone. We've been playing that means the looser can choose which deployment zone he sets up in.

I just realized it doesnt actually read that way (or any way for that matter on who chooses which zone) so I wanted to make sure we werent missing something.

Thanks!

Normally we say it is the side of the table you are on is your deployment zone.

LOL...the "lazy method"...Im well acquainted with that approach "...ive unpacked my fleet here so I will deploy here"

I like it...

The people I play with do that as well - you pick your side of the table for whatever reason, then generate scenery.

It makes sense, too. Each fleet will approach the region of space from its own territory - the Klingons can't decide that because of the layout of the asteroids, they want to enter from the Federation side of the Neutral Zone and force the Federation to enter from the Klingon side. :D

We hadn't thought of that but it is a good idea. We've been generating terrain and then picking but reversing the order makes much more sense and is fairer to all. The random terrain generator makes it that much more interesting.

The Klingons might have already entered Feddy space, raided a convoy or planet, or somesuch and be headed back into the neutral zone through a Federation fleet!

I never liked those trespassing vermin. :x

It could just as easily been those evil Flat tops from the Fedempire caught returning from a raid deep in Klingon space where they had been killing poor defenseless peace loving klingons

Black Federation ships with Skulls and cross bones. Mwahahahahahahacough

You mean those sacred boundaries that move depending on where the profit margin happens to be this week? We've all heard of the great capitalist Federation and the amazing expanding Neutral Zone - sometimes it bounces as far as your cheques!!

Yup. Those sacred boundries.

We like to think of it as photon enhanced market management techniques. :D

some of the Scenarios have 'attacker' and 'defender' deployment zones. in them we generally have a small argument about who gets/wants to be the attacker. ambush for example has 'attacker' and 'defender' deployment zones as well as a reduction of fleet size for the attacker. arguments of this type are generally along the line of "you attacked me last time, so it my turn to attack" if all else fails roll a die (or you could use an initiative roll, using racial bonuses only,to decide who gets to pick) for the scenarios that dont have 'attacker' and 'defender' deployment zones then whoever sets up first just picks (though it is often the side they have there stuff on) we generally try and remember who attacked last time so we can alternate for the few scenarios that it does matter.

Oh thats a good idea, I'll take my MINUS ONE for that roll then

Probably better to have a 50/50 chance here unless its a camapign where you know who is attacking
