Decals vs Stickers

Okay, I've been mulling this over for a while. Here's my dillemma.

I have a lot of ships, and our fights can be pretty intense, especially since we use multiple ships of the same type.

I have names picked out, but I'm wondering how I should apply them. I have GW large and small flying bases. I toyed with leaving them clear, then decided to paint them black to match the starfield.

Now, how to I label the ships? We're not sure if decals will adhere to dullcote, and all of the stickers I can look at online are pre-determined, and I can't get them to curve around the edge of the base.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Decals, definitely. Stickers, as you've found, don't work well with curved surfaces.

I'd give the stands a coat of gloss varnish, apply the decals, then apply another layer of Dullcote. Decals do adhere better to glossy surfaces - a matt surface is slightly rough, which will mean there will be small bubbles of air trapped under the decal, which will spoil both adherence and appearance. And putting a coat of varnish over the decals will help protect them.

Thank you, that be what I was looking for. Now I have to get some more varnish... been a long time since my paintbrush came near anything like that...
