Darkness Rising - asking for an idea.

Trade embargo. The Pak refuses to sell any Q40 to anyone who fights them. Limit use of jump engines to 1 per point.

Gate-ship. Unarmed jump capable ship at 2 per patrol.

Refitted merchantman (Q-ships). A trader with ALL cargo space filled with weapons.
 
Trait. Plasma mothball (x)

Installed on warships. Instead of shooting any weapons the ship can activate plasma mothball. The ship becomes virtually wrapped in plasma cacoon - it becomes centre of EM explosion with the following profile: AD X, Range: 0; AP, EM. The ship is itself not damaged by it's own mothball.

Mothball is a trait not weapon, so it is uneffected by critical hits applying to weapon systems (like -1AD).

As a side-effect targeting systems of enemy ships become overloaded with bright explosion and for rest of the turn the ship counts as having stealth trait +3. It temporary overrides natural stealth of the ship if it has any.

Activating mothball counts as firing a single and only weapon system for purposes of SA. So you cannot "Close Blast Doors and Activate Defence Grid!" or "Run Silent!" and activate plasma mothball at the same time.
 
Interesting idea - the alternative would be it sounds a wonderful defensive mechanism against fighters and weapons fire? :)
 
I would restrict the trait for bigger ships only - those for whose "instead of shooting any weapons" is really a cost. Installing plasma mothball (2) on patrol level ship would make him real fighter killer while working as close escort for big capital ships. Could become quite unballanced.

I intend the mothball to be some kind of last chance to get you ship out of an unpleasent situation. Make All Power to Engines, activate the trait and hope you'll get out. Installed on a battle level ship it won't prevent the ship from being target for fighters - it will just keep them at low to medium numbers - noone will give up 15 AD Heavy Plasma Cannon shot to kill a single Frazi.
