Dark Judges

Lol! thats an intresting description!

well hopefully sometime this week i will get them and be able to see for myself. i was told they would be here by the weekend, but nothing yet.

I try not to judge by the photos, and prefer to wait until theyre in my hand. Formerly I had the three from Wargames Foundry, and they were really good. painted up very well. Hoping these will too!

Fingers crossed!

Apologies for the delay - a handful of you are waiting as we were expecting more sets in last week but there was an issue at the printers (of all things!) with the boxes themselves. You will see your set within 24-48 hours of us receiving them (hopefully any day now).

The Dark Judges have just walked through the door (which is unnerving on a Monday morning, whichever way you look at it...).

Royal Mail willing, you will see them tomorrow!

i JUST ordered the DJ's and they JUST got shipped out

you guys never fail with your posting speeds!

now i really gotta get to work on some decent bases for them!

sorry for a double post here, but i just wanted to leave my feedback for the dark judges!

arrived not 5 minutes ago (via a very tired looking postie bless him)

i give you guys 10 / 10 for the new packaging!

aside from some serious flashing on judge fire and the customary mold lines, they're perfect!

you've out done yourselves yet again!

now, im gonna scurry off and get the bases done so i can start on these guys!

got mine a few days ago (royal mail lost the parcel in the local depot!)

i like em. few bits i didnt take to - deaths face looks, well, weird. but the rest are ok.

spirit forms are an excellent touch, and adds something different to the set.

ok folks, regarding the spirit forms, are you painting them fully colored, or in a ghostly light type of scheme? think ill go for a ghostly green, if my painting skills allow!

so i've just been having a chat with a buddy of mine, he's helping me source ideas for the dark judge bases, and he's just said this:

''you know these four otherworld judges are aspects of Dredd himself, i mean think about it

he brings Fear to everyone,
he brings Fire to those who break the law
he passes judgement on the guilty, Mortis
and those he judges he is the reaper, Death''

he honestly got me thinking about it, i don't know the origins of the DJ's, most of what i know is from the Necropolis Arc (working on the earlier case file books though).

anyone else think there is merit in this?

just throwing my hat into the ring with these

they arent grey, but i think i did them justice =)

i wont argue that they should be dancing :P but it left them open to nice posing

Death for example, it took me 30 seconds to figure out how his base would be, a tombstone with dredds name on it (the mocked death head was an after thought ^^), when he's finally stuck to the base, his right hand will be firmly on top of it, and his left is like he's pointing to himself saying ''i did that'' =)

mortis was another simple one to base, i wont tell you how long it took me to get so many skulls though... adding in the severed hand flipping the bird was my fail attempt at adding some JD humor to it

fear was a nightmare (no pun intended), so i kept it simple, theres a couple skulls on there and thats it, it works though, the darkness of the base is a nice contrast to the blue and silver of his suit (i took a little artistic license with him since all the artwork i have shows him in different colours)

fire though, he's my masterpiece (well not exactly, but i think he's the best of the four), a few added flame effects from a malifaux base accessories kit and bam, done, i even managed to have some fun painting the fire! (my best attempt at fire effects... ever). though i did consider a bit of a ghost rider thing with him, colouring his suit, but its out of character for him :P

really though, the hardest thing about them was making the bases look muggy enough to be from mega city 1! i've always done nice, clean, simple bases, a bit of sand, a little flock, 3 shades of brown and done.

this time round it was 4 shades of grey, 2 of black (can you believe black has shades?! was news to me), a black wash, some minor highlights to raise the detail, a brown wash to make it look a little dirty, retouch some more highlights and yeah, i think i pulled it off.

the rusty bits of metal was simple, i just followed my own tutorial! (i wont link it since its on a painting site, but if the boss approves, i'll repost it here for dredd lovers =) )

since im rambling a bit, i'll just say i have similar bases planned for each and every JD model i have (barring the newest releases, its all of them)

though i may give the world judges unique ones as well, just to be different =)
