Damage Modifier and Ranged Weapons

Innerwall

Mongoose
Page 53 informs that the Ranged Weapons table on page 37 tells us which weapons we can apply damage modifiers to, but I don't where the table delineates that. Is it right under my nose or a typo?

The damage modifier applies to all ranged weapons except those whose descriptions (beginning on pg. 37) say otherwise. As far As I recall this is just crossbows and the blowgun. This is confirmed in the old Player's Guide pdf.

Q: When is a character’s Damage Modifier applied to
ranged weapons?
A: All the time, except when listed as being otherwise in
the weapon’s description (such as with the blowgun).

There was an extensive discussion on this.

I tend to apply half the ranged weapon DM and then only for weapons which are actually built for the strength wielding them.

But how do you halve a D2? :)

The previous thread clarified that, whereas it is realistic that longbow wieldede by a stronger warrior can do more damage, there is a limit to the damage a bow can inflict without breaking altogeher instead of firing its projectile. I would say the DM is whole for bows, but with a limit of 1/2 the bow damage, rounded down (1d2 for self bow, 1d4 for nomad bow, 1d8 for longbow etc.).

Personaly, I think bows are powerful enough. I only allow DM to thrown weapons, to encourage my players to have a combo other than great ax and longbow.

+1?

Realistically, the modifier should really be based on the bow, and SIZ of the shooter shouldn't factor into it. I had started working on a table with damage by draw weight of the bow, since, an arrow fired from a 35kg draw nomad bow will hit with the same enrgy as one fired from a 35 kg draw longbow. At least not that much.

I had a table awhile back that did that with bows. It also figured out the draw a archer could pull based on Strength and skill (skill reprending the condtioning of the right muscles needed for archery. One reason why it took so long to train a longbowman).

I think the rules just sort of assume that everyone is carrying a bow with a draw weight suited to their own Strength. I just don't see a bow damage varying depending on who is wielding it.
