Cybernetics Careers

I like the way the cybernetics supplement integrates gaining cyberware into character generation.

IMTU overt cyberware is frowned upon though not usualyy banned for its own sake.

An option I was considering was to allow those who suffer a mishap in a career (or an injury in an event) to continue in the cybered version of their career. They would avoid any injury penalties (but would retian any enemies etc) and would lose Social status.

Does -2 to Social status seem reasonable?

What's a "cybered version" of a career? Say a 'cybered' Scout career.

I still fondly remember playing a psionic character who was plugged into the ship and couldn't leave... same with a friend of mine in one of my games, same role just not psionic... it was cool

What about, Abandon ship?

Didn't happen... but we had planned for it. The psionic chamber would launch itself as an escape pod, acting exactly the same... It would have sucked for the character to be detached so suddenly, traumatic and that, but was better than dying...

Book 4: Psion covers this, both integrated with the ship itself and just plugged in where the character would be free to leave the ship as well. Also allows for an emergency escape system.

The ship who sang?

An immobile brain character wouldn't be that exciting to play. But, a good npc idea.

Come on DFW, use that big brain your avatar so proudly displays :)

"YOU" don't find it that exciting to play, which is fine. I know without a doubt that many would though, myself included, in the right game. I'm starting to wonder if you've had the bad luck of not having good refs when you play? Ones who can take an idea like Medic or Brainship for a character and run with it. Or are you simply stuck in a rut where you play the same character in every game? Nothing wrong with that really, if it's what you find fun then more power to you.

That's obviously what I meant as I'm only me and not other people. I guess a schizophrenic could mean something else...
