Custom Ships/Deck Plans

I've always wondered about the canon escorts that don't seem to be able to protect the things they are escorting.
The Fire Guard Class Escort Frigate can use point defense to cover nearby logistic ships and coordinate with other ships to designate and prioritize enemy targets.
I don't recall Point Defense being a real option in LBB5 or MegaTraveller. Also, a lot of the canon ships seem to be "Adventure Class Ships" from a small ship universe.

Thanks for using the current rules to update functionality.

It's more that the expected threats tends to be more auxiliaries to minor combatants.

While I tend to joke about the Terran Express, it is based on the Tokyo Express, where the Japanese struggled to supply and reinforce their ground forces, stuffing them, sometimes, onboard cruisers and destroyers.

While the German capital ships, mid war, rarely sortied, the mere possibility of that tied down major units in the North Atlantic.

Since the narrative insists that the Confederation Navy (still) builds battlecruisers, you bet they'll sally forth at the start of any conflict, presumably, with the Imperium, and wreck havoc behind the lines, until the Imperium reorganizes.

Hard to say how the Zhodani will act, since that's not really my interest - they may feel that they don't want to divide their forces in the face of their enemy, though, apparently, they do like misleading the enemy to their true objectives.

Have you written a longer piece on your theories of naval strategy and engagement? You've touched on some very interesting ideas about how different cultures approach naval combat. This is probably not the right thread, I suggest this subject merits its own thread. Maybe you already have a thread I am not aware of, you're very prolific, I can't keep up.

Principles of warfare tend to remain the same.

The Confederation Navy is very easy to understand, since the Solomani are basically us.

The objectives are very clear, too, since the immediate one would be the liberation of Terra, and the near term one, the restoration of the Solomani Sphere.

I don't really know what the strategic goals of the Consulate are, beyond telling the Imperium to bugger off, though I get the hint they don't really want the Imperium to know, either, so confusing them by announcing their presence in hitting lots of convoys all over the place has merit, and tactical implications.

Sometimes you get an idea stuck in your head and it won't go away until you share it. Small ships with BFG's probably couldn't power them... but what about BFM's?
Wow, I really like this ship. It is the best Missile SDB I have seen in a long time. Well done!

Thanks!
Yes. GalCiv III. If you export the models, you can 3d Print them for tabletop... although half the time I forget to save the models... and I don't have a printer... and my wife won't let me get one...

I use paint shop pro. Although any editor with layers will do. Background grid. Hull outline layer. A different layer for interior walls, so when you change them you don't erase the hull, two or three layers for gear, either under or over the wall lines as desired.

I don't remember where the grid came from. I have been trying and failing to find it again, so if anyone knows, please point the way there.

In used PSP 7 for deck plans about 15 years ago, though your deck plans are much better than mine. Now I no longer have PSP 7, and I use Paint.NET for starmaps; I might get back to deck-planning with it! (also got GalCiv III on GoG).

Rather than making a new post, I remembered this one and am adding my most recent one. No deck plans, though. Just the design and writeup.

Indulgence-Class 1,600-Ton Luxury Liner

A Mongoose 2e design. The Indulgence-Class Luxury Liner is designed and built to be the absolute pinnacle of luxury for the most discerning passengers. Sixty well-heeled souls can eat gourmet meals, relax in the hot tub, spend time in the well-appointed library, or even walk the biosphere with the crew standing by to wait on them hand and foot. This experience is a step far beyond any normal high passage and the price tag reflects that. If you have to ask how much passage costs, you can't afford it.

And a liner for the masses.

Sunburst-Class 100,000-Ton Megaliner

The Sunburst-Class Megaliners are a somewhat common sight in the Core sectors of the Imperium. They can carry up to 10,000 medium passengers, 2,000 high passengers, and 1,000 luxury passengers and have little difficulty filling every cabin. Entertainment options run the gamut and there is even a large commercial district with shops, restaurants, and other lures to keep the passengers happy. The flagship of the line, The Sunburst of the Imperium, proudly runs the area around Capital and shows the company flag.

When I built passenger liners, I add a lot of small craft. The formal reason is to be able to evacuate the ship if necessary, but the public reason is to allow the passengers to do sightseeing, or land on planets without highports. Just something to consider if you're putting 10,000 people on a ship.

He does have 50 shuttles under craft.

I decided I wanted a cush yacht, so I designed this one.

Swank-Class 600-Ton Yacht

A Mongoose 2e design. The Swank-Class Yacht is the epitome of luxury built to spec in the TL16 shipyards at Vincennes. It has everything needed to keep someone who can afford it in luxury, along with their five closest friends. With an advanced maneuver drive capable of generating seven gravities, it won't be loitering in normal space, and with its jump 4 FTL drive, it can take its owner wherever they'd like to go.

And then I remembered that today was the announcement of the Singularity Kickstarter, and I realized I needed to take this ship up a notch to honor that project.

Swank-Class 600-Ton Yacht - Premiere Edition

A Mongoose 2e design. The Premiere Edition of the Swank-Class Yacht is the epitome of luxury built to spec in the TL16 shipyards at Vincennes. This vessel has a conscious intelligence that runs the ship and robots to fill all crew positions. It leaves the owner and his or her friends (if they choose to travel with anyone else) alone on the ship except for their digital captain. The ship has everything needed to keep someone who can afford it in luxury, along with their five closest friends.

With an advanced maneuver drive capable of generating seven gravities, it won't be loitering in normal space, and with its jump 4 FTL drive, it can take its owner wherever they'd like to go. The ship's conscious intelligence handles all piloting and astrogation duties (pilot 5, astrogation 5), the engineering and mechanical tasks are taken care of by five Star Tek engineering robots (and the repair drones that the digital intelligence can control), a Surgeon Bot replaces a living medic, and a Steward Droid handles all the tasks of a steward and valet. For those uncomfortable with no biological crew, a standard edition of the vessel is also available.

The Zacharias Janssen Class University Research Vessel provides a platform for archaeological, biological and geological forays, giving students real world experience in the field. It carries two Improved Advanced Bases in the 5 ton holds. Once the ship lands, the grappler system removes, places and sets up the base. Two remote locations are supported. Three if you include the ship. The gig and two air/rafts support the research operations.

Someone asked me for an escape pod. Here we go.

Zadkiel-Class 15-Ton Escape Pod

A Mongoose 2e Design. The Zadkiel-Class 15-Ton Escape Pod is designed to get people away from a doomed ship and keep them alive until rescue can arrive. It holds 10 emergency low berths and so can house 40 survivors and is flown by a robotic brain that costs KCr29 and has pilot (small craft) 1 for itself and controls a Medium Repair Drone (KCr37) to pass engineering (m-drives) 1 and engineering (power) 1 on to keep the pod running. It runs on the life pod's power, but can manage on its internal power for 2,592 hours before failing. It is designed to last 62 weeks before it runs out of fuel, so hopefully rescue arrives before then.

Here is the life pod robotic brain. It uses a Medium Repair Drone to do engineering support.
