Cross-overs races

It could even work along the lines of the IDF! SA. When you use it your shields regen a little bit but the AD of your weapons drop a bit due to your diverting power to recharge the shields. That way you won't have people using the SA every turn with no penalty, after all its only the plot powered auxillary reactors that have unlimited energy (or more specifically power when the ship needs it most :D ) .

Another way you could do is the first time you use the SA its free due to full aux reserves but every time it is used after that it costs some AD.

Though missile based weapons might be exempt from that as there isn't much power to divert from them, the only power to divert would be the firing mechanism which would prevent firing them all together.

Also it could be something like CBD except maybe one weapon per arc can fire instead of just one weapon total with the same restrictions of CBD on a per arc basis. By this I mean if a ship has 2 weapons in every arc it can fire one weapon per arc, but if it has 2 in the front arc and 1 in every other arc it can only fire one of the front arc guns as every other arc only has one gun and is restricted from firing because of the SA.

Just some ideas. I like the idea of using a SA to regenerate shields I just don't think it should be a free action with no penalties as during a battle these ships don't have unlimited power to keep recharging shields.

And for a ship like the Prometheus it could just have the regular shield mechanic since it has regenerative sheilds already.

The divert power to shield should have some cost the turn you do it. However after that there should be no effect, otherwise you introduce power allocation, even if in a somewhat limited fashion - and ACTA is not a game about tracking power from turn to turn.

Doesn't the Sovereign-class have regenerative shields too (or at least had them planned for)?

That's where the Interceptor trait worked a little better in Trek rules to start with as a basis for shields. Some combination of the two might be ideal. I left it with the Mongoose B5 shield rules for simplicity between the two systems.

But there is very definite shiel;d degredation in Trek, unlike GEG.

No Next Gen? :( Here I was getting excited about some Star Trek minis...I don't like the look of TOS ships...

@ Jayrider:
Federation ships may be small, that's why many micromachines sized models will work with ACTA models

You may have to use a Furuta model for the Warbird though, if you want it in scale to a Galaxy/NeghVar/Omega/Gquan/Primus etc.

i have collected nearly all Micro Maschines Space "Star Trek" Minis as teenager...from TOS until Voyager.
so...an fully functional ST mod would be COOOOOOLLLLLL...i have the minis to play with them. And an friend of me has a lot of the ST Futura minis, also.

I have worked also on an self designed Mod for ACTA with my own designed ships.

Helloooo fellow Micromachines collector. Too bad they didn't do more dominion ships huh? JemHadar battlecruiser or battleship would have been so cool... No Akira, Steamrunner or Promethus kinda sucks too.

he he....
yep...that was sadly.

But I also know that the Star Trek MM minis
have a high collector value now... 8) The rare ships, esspecially.
it was so difficult to become this special sets with the upgraded TOS Enterprise (Enterprise A), the Klingon Negh´Var, the Defiant and so on....

sorry for the OFF TOPIC... two old MM collectors

I'd think that most phasers should be mini-beams only going to beams for the biggest and most powerful versions.

Shields should work like a GEG, but each shot reduces the GEG score by 1. More powerful weapons could have trait where they do extra shield loss. e.g. Shields 10 is hit by a phaser that does 4 damage. This bounces off the shields (assuming no crits) but reduces the shield score to 9. It is then hit by a heavy phaser for 12 damage, 3 of which goes through and the shield drops to 8.

New traits:
Ablative armour. Either +1 hull or count as hull 6.
Structural integrity field. Ignore a crit affect on a roll of 5+
Adjust the phase variance (or Federation Engineers). Add 2 to any roll to repair a crit if you spot out some technobabble in a bad Scottish accent first.

@ Urobach:
I seem to recall a site selling resin star trek models (MM sized). They've got many models not in the MM series. I could forward the list to you if you're interested. Gotta dig through my email 1st, though...
