Crew Salaries

So, I'm looking at the crew salary tables when it occurs to me, what about those unsung heroes of the ship, the engineers? Do they get paid according to the highest engineering skill or the combination of engineering skills?

My interpretation is they are paid for their highest skilled position. BUT, if you are running a serious shipboard game, you might want to really detail all of the crew positions. So break up those Engineering positions and figure out how many Engineer (jump), Engineer (maneouvre), Engineer (power) and Engineer (life support) there are on the ship. Each Engineer would then be paid based on their skill in the position they hold. Chief Engineer would be paid for their highest skill level.

Mechanic and Electronics skill would also be mixed in with the Engineer skill for some positions.

This would depend on how formally organized your outfit is.

If you're overqualified for the position you hold, touch luck.

Howdy Spartan159,

I've done a search of my PDF copies for both CRB 1e and CRB 2e without finding anything. So far my search efforts in other Traveller rules has come up with the following

CT LBB 2 1977/1980:

Starship Economics 4. Crew Salaries p. 8
NPCs must be paid using the standard crew salary schedule on p. 11 with suitable modifications for expertise or seniority, generally +10% for each level of expertise above level1.

PCs may bargain for better pay rates, or they may elect to accept worse. In addition, PCs may participate with the owner-captain and accept shares in the proceeds of the ship's activities.

Ship Crews p 16
Engineers: if there is more than one engineer, then the most skilled (or oldest) becomes the chief engineer with 10% more pay.

Stewards: if there is more than one steward, then the most skilled is designated chief steward (or purser) and draws 10% more pay.

Medic: if there is more than one medic, then the most skilled is designated the ship's doctor and draws 10% more pay.

Gunner: if there is more than one gunner, then the most skilled is designated the chief gunner and draws 10% more pay.

My search is CT LBB 5 HG 2 did not find any references to crew salaries, but then I was actually paging through the book which means I probably missed the information.

I'm a bit wary about going through my PDF MT and TNE material. In theory T4 is a modified TNE so I'm not sure if I should go through the books.

If I find something else I'll drop back by.

Thanks for looking, I've tried to keep an eye out as well. For what it's worth, HG2e currently says "Salary can vary but the values on the Crew Requirements table shows a monthly average for skill level 1 crew, with the presumption that +50% will be added for every skill level above this." Talk about a bump for inflation. For an Engineer with Jump 3 Maneuver 1 Power 1 that could be the difference between Cr 8,000 per month and Cr 12,000 per month.

Thank you for another bit of information about HG 2e and you are not kidding about inflation.

Here is an update on crew salaries from TNE Core Rulebook GDW0300 p. 227

16. Crew Settlement
The crew of the ship is paid every month. The following are typical salary schedules. Payment below is based on skill, not asset.

ORN is the Officer Rank Number from character generation: O-1 rank is ORN rank 1. Any E-level rank counts as ORN 1 for purposes of payment.

Bridge Crew: Cr500 times ORN plus 5% for each level of Pilot (Interface/Grav), Astrogation, or Leadership skill above 1.

Engineering Crew: Cr500 times ORN plus 5% for each level of Ship's Engineering skill above 1.

Maintenance Crew: Cr500 times ORN plus 5% for each level of Admin/Legal, Mechanic, or Electronic skill above 1.

Command Crew: Cr1,000 times ORN plus 5% for each level of Pilot (Interface/Grav), Astrogation, or Leadership skill above 1.

Gunners: Cr500 plus 5% for each level of any applicable Gunnery skill above 1.

Flight Crew: Cr1,000 5% for each level of Pilot (Interface/Grav) skill above 1.

Ship's Troops: Cr500.

Stewards: Cr500 times Service skill above 1.

Medical Crew: Cr500 times Medical skill above 1.

I've checked in my PDF copies of MT Player's and Referee's Manual and came up empty. I'll try the other books I have on PDF, but I have a feeling I don't have the one I need in PDF.

I'm back with MT crew salaries.

From MT Imperial Encyclopedia p. 93
