OK, we're making some progress here . And as to Cordas making his point that once you shoot you lose Obscured status and should not get it back unless "paid for" with another Ready action, I understand and agree with him as well. That too is stated in the rules. I could see something agreed to between players that as long as no shots were taken from the Obscured "position" those infantry could keep the Obscured status and "roll it over" into later turns. Then the question for the player using it becomes just how long do you stay pinned down under fire (that will eventually kill you) while you cannot return fire without sticking your head up so you can return that fire? I think that this is such a minor "advantage" to the usage of Stationary Advanced Cover (as I'll term it) that it could be tolerated in the game. If I'm the enemy player and the other guy wants to lay in a puddle behind a small tree or bush and voluntarily suppress himself, far be it from me to argue the point . Who knows though, there might be a situation where reinforcements are coming up from the rear or two Fireteams decide to rejoin into a larger Squad before rushing an MG position that it might be of some use.
My playing experience is a bit limited right now (like none) so anyone that can answer better will, but as far as I know if you have a nine man USMC Squad and your two SAW Gunners are setting up their M249s, then the other seven get to stand there and nitpick to the other two how best to do what they're doing . I guess as long as they are standing around, they can state that they too are spending a Ready action just in case they wish to use Covered Advance in their next turn . Waste not, want not I say.
